I am doing a project at school where we have to maintain a fish tank for the entire year, but my fish keep disappearing! So far, two of them have just diappeared. The tank is covered, and the fish we have in the tank are: 5 neon tetras, 2 cardinal tetras, 3 albino corys, and 3 fancy guppies. So far, 1 of the cardinal tetras and 1 of the guppies have disappeared. Why is this happening?

The cover on the tank has no holes in it, the filter has a cover with tiny cuts in it to ensure that fish don't get into it, and if they had been eaten, we would have seen remains in the tank, I think.

i can tell you one thing, they didn't get eaten by the other fish alive
If they where eaten, then only because they where already dead

I would check all the decorations as well as your filter, because once they die they get sucked up by the filter intake

Also neons and guppy's are not very hardy fish, and if you haven't cycled your tank, there will be more fish disappearing

Keep in mind that you have to do regular maintanance on your tank
Your ammonia is suppose to be at 0 as well as your nitrite, nitrate should be under 20ppm

You are suppose to do 25% partial waterchanges weekly with a gravelsiphon, and top it off with conditioned water

feed your fish twice a day, as much as they will eat in under 3-5 min, the rest should be netted out
Feed your cory's 2 algae wafers every other day

Leave the light on for 10-12 hours during the day, and turn it off for 12-14 hours at night (a timer is helpful)

you didn't say if the guppy was a female, but she could have died due to stress at birth

Hope that helps
Good luck

Well to me the most obvious answer would be that another fish is eating them but theyre could be another reason which i think could be that the fishes are actually jumping out of the tank as yes they sure can if a fish gets frightened for any reason that can make them jump and another cause for the dissappearing fish could be the filter is sucking them up .

i'm not sure who's giving all the down arrows, consistent with probability the trolls are out early? yet specific , a fish can get eaten that speedy, it could additionally bounce out, and flop decrease than a settee. however the easy being off does not have led to this. extra probably the fish grew to become into unwell and you didnt word, and it died then grew to become into eaten. issues ensue, sorry to assert. you need to to do a water substitute, this is probably there have been waste products left in the back of.
