This has been occuring since the age of approximately 3. I have recently made an appointment to see the doctor. What can this be? I never thought much of it over the years as it didn't seem to bad, but recently (2 years) it seems to have gotten worse! It hasn't effected his school as he is a stright A student!

Well it doesn't sound like it's affecting him...I don't think you should really worry but maybe you should go get him checked up on by a doctor..
Sounds like it could just be a problem with his nervous system, I'm not sure..
