Is sanctifying graces the same as regular graces? how do we receive them?

Are they necessary for salvation?

Sanctifying grace is definitely necessary for salvation. The Catechism tell us "The Most Holy Trinity gives the baptized sanctifying grace, the grace of justification: enabling them to believe in God, to hope in him, and to love him through the theological virtues." (CCC #1266)

Without this special grace we could not even turn towards God in the first place and believe in His power to save us.
