I have heard good things about L'Oreal and Herbal Essences, but I'm not really sure.

I'm going from a medium brown to a light auburn/red.

This is my first time coloring my hair, so it has to be pretty easy!

I Use PREFERENCE® By L'Oreal And I Think It Is The Most Fade Resistant Color I've Tried. However, Everyones Hair IS Different, AND You Are Using A Red Shade, The LEAST Fade-Resistant Color. So, I Would Recommend Getting Your Hair In The Best Shape Possible BEFORE You Color It. And Get A Special Color Enhancing Shampoo And/Or Treatment To Maintain Your Color.

Good-Luck!!

I've been dying my hair at home for 9 years and have used pretty much everything on the market. I've come to really like Loreal's Feria, and it's just as easy/difficult to use as any other brand. Color always lasts a very long time, hair is always left in great condition, and the colors and incredibly vibrant. Looks JUST like the box. The price is usually maybe on the slightly pricier side, but still around $10/box like most others.
Good Luck!!

Preference by L'oreal is the best. Very simple but they all are. But I love the conditioner that you use after you color. My hair looks healthier after I color when I use L'Oreal. I've used Herbal Essence also but still prefer L'Oreal.
