I think that these Spay neuter advocates psychotic people. I had one of these crack pots for SPAY INc. beg me to abort my cat's offspring, for the kittens own good of course. One of those kittens was my long time companion who lived 16 years and had happy life right here in the home where he was born. What a waste it would have been not having allowed the female cat to breed those beautiful kitties. My female cat had over 20 babies and I am proud off it. All of them lived either with me or in a good and loving home. Animals reproduction is a part of nature and shouldn't be tampered with lightly. Denying an animal the right to reproduce is of the worst form of animal cruelty. Animals are not like humans. They are to be our domestic pets for our benefit, not theirs. Cats and dogs are meant to live in the wild, get a grip people. These animals rights retards think these animals are like people. Soon dogs and cats will be extinct due to this spay neuter insanity. I dont mean to advocate overbreeding. Allow the females one or 2 litters, then get them spayed. Reproduction is a right we should not deny our animals. Routine spay/neuter of animals is morally wrong and those who believe in it are stupid people. Sorry if the truth hurts.

I don't like the idea either, however, it is a myth that they lose their instinct. Some might be less hyper as they will lose some hormones. It is good to neuter if your dog roams the neighborhood. You don't need him breeding with others and then having babies that no one will take care of. The other reason is girl dogs have a 1 in 4 chance of developing breast cancer if you don't. After the 2nd or 3rd cycle there is no difference whether you neuter or not as the incidence of cancer will be there, but most vet's will recommend that you neuter anyway b/c a dog cannot get cancer if the part has been removed.

Well, this is a decision that you have to make. Their are pros and cons of having a dog spayed/neutered. If you have a female dog, if you don't spay her, you could end up with a lot of puppies running around and making a mess. Also, with female dogs, they go into heat. When that happens, male dogs can smell an odor that the dog gives off. Plus, say, you have a female pug and she goes into heat. If, say, a German Shepard smells her and they...(well, you know what I mean), she could die because the puppies inside her would be too big. I'm not sure about anything about male dogs though, but spaying or nuetering your dog should be your decision.

All of the answers here are good answers. Spaying and neutering can prevent lots of problems later in life, like mammery cancer in females and prostate problems in male dogs. Neutering a male dog lessens their aggressions towards other dogs. And dont feel guilty about the dog who has been neutered, they have no clue. They will lead a much calmer life, less stressful and they will be better companions. Like someone said, lots of women get hysterectomys and lots of men get vasectomys. Also, this may be of interest to you-- You speak of killing the dogs natural instinct. But what you dont understand is that dogs are direct descendants from wolves. Wolves in the wild dont get spayed or neutered but they dont all have babies either. Only the Alpha female in the pack is allowed to breed, and she is bred by the alpha male. The rest of the pack helps to raise the babies! This ensures that only the fittest, strongest, most intelligent animals survive, thus ensuring survival of the species as a whole. Pretty amazing, huh? I hope this helps!!

Actually since at least where i live there are alot of dogs and cats that are spayed and neutered and when they breed and the pups get sold there are alot of people out there that are cruel and send the animals to the pound after awhile or even just dump them on the streets which causes overpopulation which is the leading cause of euthanization(putting to sleep). Where i live there is such an overpopulation that the city actually put in into play that you have to pay a 50 permit to have a dog that isnt spayed/neutered. so no its not cruel in the long run because even though it would be just your dog its still safer for the generations in the future.

Dogs don't get Sprayed, they get Spayed and Neutered. I have no clue where you got the idea, that Spaying and Neutering, leads to killing a dog's basic instincts and becoming docile. That's so far from the truth! These sites, will tell you exactly, why you should Spay and Neuter your pets: http://www.hsus.org/pets/pet_care/why_you_should_spay_or_neuter_your_pet.html

That's one of the reasons, you need to Spay and Neuter your pets, because they DO deserve the very best you can offer them, for being your best friend and loyal companion. They will live longer and happier lives, in the long run!

"This kind of treatment" is the best gift you can give your best canine friend. Your conscience should bother you if you deny your dog this. The major reason spaying and neutering is for the good of their health. The second is to help with pet overpopulation. Statistics show that your dog's kids would have a high probability of ending up in shelters and possibly killed because there aren't enough homes. As for behvior changes, the dog may become less aggressive and more prone to learn obedience, but will not be a spiritless vegetable. I can assure you that my latest foster, who got neutered 4 weeks ago, is the same happy, exuberant 3 year-old he was before.
Here are some good websites that will help you make the wise decision and help you feel better about doing the right thing.

Depends on Vet;s workplace. my vet may be very fair. Everything has long gone up. If you don't think me, cross seem at a Vet provides retailer on-line and spot how a lot sutures, surgical apparatus, catheters, IV, drugs, provides rate...Lets now not disregard overhead, comparable to warmth, hire/loan, payroll, and so forth, and so forth. If you cannot have the funds for the rate of spaying or neutering your puppy, you will have to Contact your regional Animal Control or Humane Society to look if there is a low priced software on your discipline. A well one for cats is Neuter Scooter, despite the fact that they do spays a swell.

It doesn't kill a dog's basic instincts. It may lead to some behavioral changes in the dog, but it's still going to be the same animal. The urge to wander off in search of a mate will be dulled, if not erased, so the chance of your pet becoming a grisly hit-and-run on the street isn't so much of an issue and you'll have done your part to fight the pet overpopulation problem by prohibiting your animal from producing unwanted litters that will produce more unwanted litters and so on and so forth.

Both my dogs are spayed. They aren't any different personality wise then they were before hand. The only difference is no heat and no babies.
Animals don't view sex and reproduction like we do. Which would you rather have? Your dog living a happy and healthy life or risk the possibility of cancers and contributing to the over population where its possible that the off spring could die in a shelter or in some other unsavory condition?
If dogs understood things like people, do you think they would want these things to happen to their babies? I doubt it. Of course, they don't think this way because they are not like us. Therefore, you shouldn't feel guilt for those animals out there that have been altered. They are happy and healthy and could care less.

The only instinct it stops is the one to produce more unwanted animals. The dogs stay pretty much the same.
Fixing your pet lowers their risk of certain health problems and they are less likely to run away (which also reduces their risk of being injured: run over, attacked by another animal, poisoned, etc.) And obviously, it stops adding to overpopulation of pets. Personally, a routine procedure is more appropriate than having to see an unwanted litter of puppies put to sleep because someone was uneasy about getting their dog fixed.
Furthermore, don't let that one thing stop you from adopting. I've had several animals go through the surgery....they were fine. I don't even think my boys know they're missing anything...
