Yes but it really depends. Not every dog is the same.

I currently have 6 dachshund, I do dachshund rescue but have 4 of my own permanently.
Obviously, I love the breed and think they are remarkable dogs - brave, funny, loyal, cute, intelligent and very, very loving.
Dachshund, however, are not for everyone - they are independent thinkers with a lot of prey drive (the only hound that kills its prey) and they can be stubborn if they think they are right and you are wrong.
I wouldn't want to ever be without a couple of dachshund, they make life fun, a well adjusted dachshund is a delight, but they need to be socialized and trained to be polite.
Before you get a dachshund, get a book called "Dachshund for Dummies" - dumb title, but great book, very informative and fun to read - it will help you decide if a dachshund is for you.
Then, if you do decide to get a dachshund, consider getting one from a dachshund rescue.
Do an online search, there are several good rescues and you will be able to find a dachshund that suits your home, both by temperament and age. Rescues keep their dogs in foster homes, so the foster home can tell you all about the dog, it's likes, needs, behavior, etc. - you will get exactly what is described and not have any unpleasant surprises from getting a pup from a breeder and having it turn out to be very different from what is advertised.
Good luck, hope you adopt a dachshund and love it and have as much fun with it as I do with mine.

They are great dogs, but it really depends on your lifestyle and what you do. Dachshunds can be a bit hard to take care of for a first time dog owner (mine just got bit by a rattlesnake yesterday :( ), but if you can handle the needs of one, especially their backs, they are good dogs. They are very loyal, intelligent, sweet, cute, friendly, adorable dogs. I know they'll always have a special place in my heart anyways! Do some research and see if it's the right breed for you.
Add: Not all Dachshunds bark. Mine hardly barks at all! Only when someone knocks on the door. Every Dachshund I know hardly barks. It depends on the individual. Mine also has only bitten anybody twice and that's because they were messing with her and being mean to her, so they deserved it. Dachshunds really are great dogs and people always think because they're little, they're going to be yappy little ankle biters, but they are not.

I have had a mini one, and my mom has 2 regular size. They are very good dogs. Loyal and loving. Ours loved everybody. The only thing is watch their weight. It can hurt their backs. Also jumping and going up and down a lot of steps can cause them back problems. They can get dachshund disease, that is when they get stuff under their front legs.(arm pit) You have to get cream to put their. I hope this helps

It really depends. The best kind of dog is one that fits your personality.

Yes. But you have to be careful and lift them since they are not that good at jumping high.

My boyfriend has one.. and let me tell you ,I would not recommend getting one. First of all, and I have heard this from others that have them, they follow you around EVERYWHERE. EVERY time you get up, even if they are sleeping, they will follow you. Sounds cute at first... but it gets old fast. Second, they are horrendous barkers... and are known for it.
Third, he is extremely nippy with my dogs, who he has grown up with... toy and food aggressive, which I have also heard from others who had them.
Yes, I know I will get thumbs down for this... but remember, I am telling her my experience people - this is what YA is for!
