So I would like to get married in a quick fast wedding at the civil court in los angeles. i know there are a few to choose from. i was wondering how they go about performing the actual ceremony? Is it just at some desk and they just sware you in or something? Thats what im picturing. This isn't the route I want, but it will be the route I have to settle for right noq. Trying to get married before my love goes off to Iraq. Please share your experiences.

Also, do they give the the official wedding certificate the same day? or do you get it in the mail or do you have to come back?

I'm sorry, I don't know about the actual process of a civil marriage, but I wanted to offer this suggestion for location.

There is a little place I drive by on the way home from work called Albertson Wedding Chapel. It's in the Miracle Mile area. I can't find their website, but the profile on Citysearch says they also do same-day ceremonies and marriage licenses there. It also says Military personnel get a discount.

It got one great review and one bad one on Citysearch, but from driving by, it looks like it might be cute inside.

Generally you're taken into the Justice of the Peace's chambers, stand in front of his desk/bench - depends on the location, of course. He performs the wedding, you and your witnesses and the JP sign the license and you go file it. I do not know about getting it back the same day of if the mail it once it's recorded.

You could also get your license and find a wedding officiant to do a ceremony in a park or somewhere private, even your living room (That's the type of wedding I do - small, out of church ceremonies).

I don't think you can do it at City Hall any more. I think you have to go to the county hall of records on Imperial Highway in Norwalk. I know thats where you go to get the license, and I'm pretty sure they do the ceremonies there too. or if you live on the west side. check out Beverly Hills city hall. I think they do it there too.
