Many tried to "beat" around the bush to "beat" the problem generated by the "beat" of 4:34.


Most scholars now agree that the correct translation to this comprehensive word is either IGNORE or TAKE AWAY or SEPARATION FOR A TIME.


So as a last resort before DIVORCE the couple should seperate for a time until reconciliation can be made.



A Famous Multi-Meaning Word

The problem comes from the word "Idribuhunne" which we used to translate as "beat them". The root of this word is "DaRaBa". If you look at any Arabic dictionary you will find a long list of meanings ascribed to this word. That list is one of the longest list in whole Arabic dictionary. A book doesn't treat man or women. Poeple does. And this depend on their understanding of what is right and wrong. It says in the bible that women are created for men and they are supposed to be submisive, the Quran says that people are created equally. However, some Muslims don't treat women right. They don't follow their book the right way. And the same thing happend with Christians and Jews!
