Depends on where, tests required, etc. I expect approx. £30 for a check up. Not sure though. try and check with local vets for her. They won't want to put down a vet unless they are suffering unnecessarily. I'm sure she would not want that, but they can't put her cat down unless she agrees anyway!
Best wishes for you all.

You didn't give alot of specifics like the cats age, how is she not well and most importantly how long since the cat has been to a vet so do u have any idea what your cats' ailment might be.
First, just like some else answered no vet can perform any services w/o your consent and the eusthania cost varies to around $50+, and an individual cremation around $100-200.
the longer she waits the more the kitty sufffers and costs can be
significantly more.
Not well can mean almost anything. get her to a vet and if you do lose her I totally can understand the sad feelings of loss.
But think how bad u will feel if you waited too long to help her.

Just because her cat is old and unwell doesn't mean it has to be put to sleep! Is she on benefits? If she is she can go to the rspca, pdsa, blue cross etc and have the cat checked out. All she'll have to pay for a check up is about £8 / £10 plus the cost of any medication the cat needs but that won't be very dear. A private rip off merchant will of course charge her for the very air she breathes whilst in the surgery, never mind the check up cost and drugs!!! To have a cat put to sleep in a charity supported vet such as the rspca etc will cost her nothing! My local rspca put my old boy to sleep two yrs ago and kept his body in the deep freeze whilst i arranged collection and cremation ( two days ) and never asked for a penny! The drug used to put an animal to sleep is not very expensive and your friend needs to point this out to her vet if its private, ask for a proper run down of the costs involved! Then again, on the other side of things, you do need money behind you when you have a pet. Has she insurance for the cat? If she qualifies for the rspca etc, there is scheme for really hard up people whereby she can pay weekly or monthly until its all paid up. Please don't allow that cat to suffer for the sake of money, its not fair. I'm sure she'll do the right thing by her cat, it does deserve some special attention now in its old age.

A veterinarian cannot euthanize a pet without the owners written consent--a form that must be signed first.
Just because the kitty is old doesn't mean it needs to be euthanized. Many illness can be treated with medications, a good diet and lots of TLC!
Your friends kitty should be seen by a vet for both your friend's and the kitty's well-being. She can then discuss treatment options with the vet.
If money is a problem, and has to be a factor, have her look into Care Credit. The link is attached. It is a credit card just for medical expenses including veterinary. My cats regular/routine expenses are in the budget, but my Care Credit has saved me many times for the surprises!
Also, here is a link to agencies that help owners with emergency medical expenses. It is under feline diabetes, but they help with other emergencies, not just diabetic related.
As for the costs, for my vet visits in southwestern Virginia, about $50 for the wellness examination, bloodwork is extra and anywhere from $50 - $150, depending on how extensive. I have older cats and a diabetic cat, so they usually get the full workups. Cat euthanization is $25.
Purrs and prayers for your friend and her kitty.

If it is just an exam, it shouldn't be all that much. It would be a good idea to have your friend call around and get prices on just check ups. That's if she doesn't have a veterinarian yet. If she ops to have tests run, treatments done and medicine given. Then, that will raise the cost of the care the cat gets. This will be a judgement call for your friend. Whether she wants to let kitty go humanely or if she wants an outrageous vet bill on her hands. The cost of on going care for any animal is sky high. In my opinion it would be best to put kitty down instead for paying so much money just to prolong her life while she is so sick.

First, I would like to say that a vet, by law, cannot put an animal to sleep without the owner's written consent. That eliminates the first problem.
Euthanasia will cost around $50-75 depending on where you live. Having the animal cremated will cost more (an additional $100-200), or you can just bury the cat in your garden for free.

The checkup would be around $25 to $35 I think (the vet can confirm this by phone).
Euthenasia is about $100, this covers disposal of the body (usually cremation). The cat may not be at that point yet, so a checkup would be in order. She can refuse any treatment, remember.

A vet cannot put a cat down without an owners permission, No one can tell you how much things will cost if they don't know what is wrong, what is needed and where you live. Find out what is wrong, figure on 15 bucks if a blood test is needed and let us know so maybe we can help ftom there
