Revolution is by prescription only, so you would need a vet visit first. You can get Advantage or Frontline without it though.

I'm a vet in the UK... and I can assure you that I've never seen a cat get sick or die because of flea treatment. Its true that a few cats may have allergies, but this is extremely rare. I'm not a big advocate of collars on cats (flea or any other kind) as they tend to cause more injury than is necessary. The best treatment for fleas is a spot on formula, either from the vets or from a supermarket... applied monthly should keep the cat flea-free. Remember, cats need worming too as well as their vaccinations to keep them healthy and happy.

You do have to have a prescription for Revolution because it contains a heartworm preventative. If the dog actually had heartworm the medication in Revolution could be deadly.

Why are you choosing Revolution over Frontline or Advantage? If you're just looking to control fleas you can get either of those without a precription. I use Frontline on my Newf/Lab and it's worked amazingly well.

FYI - I'm not sure if they ship to Canada or not but http://www.800petmeds.com has really great prices. That's where I get all my pets flea treatments from.

Most vets want to see the animal before selling a product like revolution. At least, they want to confirm that they are healthy because it could cause problems on an unhealthy animal. Many vets will accept a copy of your pet's records, showing his last wellness checkup.

If your pet hasn't been to the vet just for a checkup and shots, most vets don't charge a lot for it. My vet only charges about $15 for a wellness checkup (if your pet is due for shots.... if they are sick it is more).

Also, if you call a vet in the States, they are usually upfront with you about their requirements for selling Revolution.

Good luck! (on buying Rev. and finding a trust-worthy, inexpensive vet)

I get revolution from my vet in California, and they charge around $100 for one box which is 6 doses. You need a prescription, so they will want to see the pet
