yes i do feel acupuncture really works, from my clinical experience.
according to chinese traditional medicine- Acupuncture treats the human body as a whole that involves several "systems of function" that are in some cases loosely associated with (but not identified on a one-to-one basis with) physical organs.Disease is understood as a loss of balance between the yin and yang energies, which bears some resemblance to homeostasis among the several systems of function, and treatment of disease is attempted by modifying the activity of one or more systems of function through the activity of needles, pressure, heat, etc. on sensitive parts of the body of small volume traditionally called "acupuncture points" in English, or "xue" (穴, cavities) in Chinese. This is referred to in TCM as treating "patterns of disharmony".
it is now widely accepted by medical doctors that acupuncture actually is beneficial to mre than 80% of patients- with chronic pain problems.there are various studies to show its benefits.
there are some studies which actually state that there is a release of endorphins( natural pain killers in our body) with acupuncture
froom my own clinical experience, patients with chronic aches and pains are very satisfied after starting acupuncture, infact i know many medical doctors who have actually opted for training in acupuncture after seeing the beneficial effects in their patients.
with regards to how long it lasts, from my clinical experience it is generally short lived- about a few months, before pain relapses again, so patients need to be on long term treatment- but its 100% safe if used correctly and thus you avoid taking drugs.

When I worked in hospitals one of the consultant anaesthetists used to use acupuncture. Having seen surgical procedures done using acupuncture I have to say it works.

Personally I tried it in attempt to stop smoking - it didn't work for me.

Yes, I tried accupuncture about a year or so after I was diagnosed with osteoarthritis (this was nearly 20 years ago) and I found that after 6 treatments I got excellent results. The effects of the accupuncture lasted several months.
