I bought a budgie a few days ago. When I put my hand in the cage it goes to the other side, but when my brother does it, it will not move. Also, my budgie randomly chirps so I whistle back. How will I get it to trust me?

To get him to trust you, more than once a day slowly put your hand in the cage. Talk to him softly often. Don't be a cyclone around your bird, be slow and calm.

When he does move away from your hand, just leave your hand in the cage and talk softly. You can also try moving your hand slowly towards him. If you've only had him a few days don't worry, he'll warm up to you. Be patient.

The reason your budgie is moving to the side when you put your hand in there is because you are or have moved to quickly toward the bird and frightened it.

To hand tame your parakeet, simply put your index firmly up against the birds chest until it steps up on your finger.

When your bird chirps, you can talk back to it by saying things in a sweet voice like:

You are such a pretty bird!
You are such a good birdie!
I love you little birdie!
Do you want to come out and play?

If you say the same things, your bird may learn to talk. In time, your bird will trust you. Just make certain to play with it at least once each day!

Well he's probably still scared. When I got mine he would bite very hard in the area between my nail and skin.
Maybe your brother's hands are smaller and don't look as threatening? Maybe he's more calm that you? Who knows.
Whistling back is good!
Also, put treats in the cage(like apple slices or cucumber slices) and sit by the cage and talk to it.
He'll get used to you soon enough

WHATS FUNNY IS THAT IVE GOT 2. IVE HAD THE FEMALE FOR 5 YEARS AND THE MALE 1 YEAR. ANYWAY, THE FEMALE BITES ME WHEN I HANDLE HER,BUT WHEN MY HUSBAND WANTS TO HOLD HER SHES FINE WITH IT. NOW THE MALE IS SCARED OF EVERYONE. I THINK IT JUST DEPENDS ON THE BIRD.
