I have a huge fascination for Asia and especially for China. I went there for 3 weeks and it was the greatest place I ever visited. I am fluent in English, French and Mandarin Chinese but still have time to learn Cantonese. I am 17 years old, still in high school, live with my father and I plan to study international business and management in University and probably get an MBA. My father have been living all over Europe and he doesn't really like Asia so I think it would be really hard to convince him to help me.
What can/should I do right now in order to prepare for my dream? I want to have my own business somewhere around southern China. I know it's far away from the present but still, this is my wish (or part of it). My father would gladly help me if I wanted to move somewhere in Europe or even in USA but I think he would be scared by the idea of me moving to Asia, it would probably be very hard to get support from him ashe have a very "Western" mindset.
Thanks in advance.

Youhave an ambitious dream and a long way to go. You will find it is very difficult to immigrate to a foreign country. Remember China is a COMMUNIST country and has very limited free business opportunities. You need to go to college.in the U.S. A degree in international business would be wonderful for you. You pay learn many ways to use that degree in doing business in the Far East. If you eventually decide you really want to live permanently in china, you would need to contact the Embassy of China to the U.S. and get information on immigration. Getting a work visa and residence visa is very difficult. But, for now...go for that degree in international business...you will need it and it will help you see many possibilities.

Yes, Hong Kong may be very distinctive than China. Even although Hong Kong used to be passed again to China in 1997, so much of the town hasn't transformed. Unlike China, Hong Kong isn't communist and given so much much less regulations. The simplest aspect of Hong Kong's govt that China controls is its army and security. The town itself may be very quick-paced, busy, and crowded. You should have no drawback dwelling in HK for the reason that some of the avenue indicators are in English, many foreigners paintings in HK, and lots of expatriates nonetheless reside in HK. Most of the locals recognize a tight quantity of English, however you'll commonly gain knowledge of somewhat of Cantonese even as dwelling there. If you do make a decision to transport there, I could don't forget you very fortunate!

Now you said you are only 17? Before you make any decision, do some research on Hong Kong/China such as job market, living expenses, job condition, and other important information regarding the city.
Go to Hong Kong and stay for more than 3 weeks. HK is a fun place to visit, however, making and earning a living is a bit different. It is hectic and rushing. If you like that sort of life, then go for it. Just study your international business course as you plan, once you acheive your goal, you will be alot older. Then just tell your father you would like to give Asia a try. If you don't like it then, tell him you will go back home.

Once you complete your studies and are able to secure a good job and have the legal means to stay in Hong Kong or China, I would think your father would have a difficult time objecting to your dreams and goals. Not to mention the fact that the world's economy is turning towards Asia, and the opportunities here are great.

I love East Asia, and especially Chinese civilization. I was able to live in Taiwan for five years, but I was in my 50's when I did that.
Can you suggest to your father that you might spend a summer at a summer program at a Hong Kong University, and perhaps he could come at the end of the program and you could show him around and he might catch some of your enthusiasm.
He might be impressed that his son has made such a life for himself in just weeks and be more favorable.

easy, Dad, have you ever been to China? No? well maybe you can visit me sometime. I'm turning 18 and I'm taking the pink slip on my life.
Just beware that he might not be happy and he might take away some things you are accustomed to. Prepare to be an adult kid.

Do you know why thousands of Chinese are moving to the US ? It's because China isn't the best place to live ! And what makes you think they would allow you to open your own business ? I'd have second thoughts if I were you.
