I might have to have surgery and so i know it's routine to use a breathing tube. But I'm SO terrified of it. Am I going to remember it? Feel It?

Anyone Ever had One?

I have had general anesthesia five times [ for 6, 2, 3, 2, and 1 hour surgeries ]. I never felt the tube being put in, and only had a sore throat once.
The anesthesiologists and nurse anesthetists practice this Procedure A LOT so they can do it in seconds, perfectly. The breathing tube comes out before you wake up.
You won't feel or remember anything.

I've been intubated for surgery. They won't put the tube in until you're under, so you won't feel it or remember it. You may have a slightly sore throat from it (it can be a bit irritating), but that's nothing. They'll give you a sedative to calm you and then a general anesthetic which will put you completely under before you're intubated, so you'll be relaxed and not at all scared or nervous.

Are you sure you need to be intubated? Are you have general anesthesia? You don't need a tube if you're under a local anesthesia.

You will be out cold before that happens and you will wake up with a weird sore throat that you can not soothe with ice cream, but you won't feel anything while it is happening or staying in their. Good luck. Done it. You will get pain meds. Don't worry. It's pretty common.

i never had but if you can feel it then they shouldn't be performing the surgery on you at all. its okay calm down the reason you won't feel it cause you'll be under anesthesia...so everything will go smoothly & you won't feel a thing...good luck with it all.

If they put you out, you will not feel it at all. It shouldn't hurt after. Atleast mine didn't hurt. Good luck!~~~
