My father in law was born there in the 30s. Kicked out during the 50s. Now he leaves permanently in Rhodes but keeps talking about the beauty of Istanbul (the food, the songs, the old life). Last year, we thought we give it a try and go there for few days. But then, as we were getting serious over this trip, he turned very emotional. He is quite old and so I thought this trip would not do any good to him or to any of us.
Due to my job, I've been almost everywhere but never there-for really silly reasons I was a bit scared and canceled it at least 2 times in the past. The question keeps coming back though. Actually, one of the first questions posted in this section by me was how safe is for a Greek to go there. I know is much safer than perhaps...Athens but somebody has to get these stupid ideas out of mind. Oh well...time will tell.

when i was 6 years old, my family and i lived in Istanbul for 1 and a half years, i dont remember it much but i remember going by the ocean getting fish sandwiches or corn, very nice country, a lot of history in it

Yes I have seen the Bosphorus and Istanbul city. This is a city I will never forget!!! So beautiful, so unique, so interesting, so enticing.............
