Hi there is nothing to worry about.... well i hope not as my 2 year old does it now an again, i think it is when he is frustrated trying to do something he can't. I'm sure your little one will stop doing it one day, try not to worry an if you still do worry see a health visitor they will know what to do about it.

I am trying to visualize an 8 month old "beating up" another child. I just can't without laughing. What happens BEFORE she slaps herself and screams?

Would she slap her face when she's not geting what she wants or for no reason? My son used to hit his head off the wall if i took a toy off him or stopped him from doing anything. There was no reasoning with him and eventually he moved his mood swings to standing in the middle of the room with his arms folded and it was impossible to move him.......I'd watch it if it goes on too long but most kids have crazy phases and then grow out of them. Ask the doc the next time you in if you still worried. Good Luck. nic

My son (19 months) slaps his head to get a reaction from me. The first time he did it, I made the mistake of exclaiming "don't you hit my baby!" and he giggled his head off and now he thinks it's a game!
I just try to redirect him every time he slaps himself..."can you clap your hands?" "point to your nose!" and it generally works like a charm.
When she is "screaming crazily"...is she being silly, or is she mad??

My son is 12 mnths old. He use to do the same thing. and laugh. He dont do it any more now he's in the phase of banging his head against the wall or hitting himself in the chest. I hate it! I think its just a phase though.

My 3 yr old daughter does this. She thinks it is funny. I am guessing that we must have laughed at her once and that was enough encouragement for her.

maybe she just saw something on tv and thought it was funny. but definitly keep a close eye on it. you never know. and her next check up tell your doctor and find out his/her opinion.
