There are two steps. First is to eliminate the fleas on your cat. Now, things like Frontline and Advantage are easily applied and effective. Then, you get an insect bomb for fleas and set them off inside your house, paying attention to the instructions. That will eliminate the fleas and their eggs that may be in the house. With regular treatments of your cats, your cats will remain flea free.

I'm currently working on this. My babies have received two applications of Advantage Multi since entering my life back in August.

I wasn't sure if they had fleas. They were both scratching a lot but I did not find any fleas. They were seen by the vet 2 days after coming home. The vet did not find any indication of fleas. I was told the scratching could be due to allergies. About 3 weeks later, they were seen by another vet who also did not find fleas and said that it may be a skin problem. This vet highly recommend that my kitties got dewormed annually and receive Advantage every month as preventative measures.

Over the last 8 weeks, I've found 4 or 5 fleas. I used a small plastic flea comb for $2. Any fleas I catch are drowned in soapy water.

Bayer claims that Advantage will rid flea infestations on the cat and in the house over time. It is recommended that the cat's beddings and environment is clean regularly.

I bought a Dyson DC14 upright vacuum and vacuum at least weekly. I have also tried flea powder for the carpet but stopped using it because it is just nasty to work with. It is a very fine powder that needs to be rubbed into the carpet.
I highly recommmend the Dyson because it picked up flea powder that my bf's Sear's progressive canister vac left behind.

Bottom line:
I've bath them both, applied Advantage, washed their beddings, and vacuumed weekly over the last 5 weeks.

To check progress:
I groom them everyday. They like to sleep in a spare bedroom on the sheets; so every few days, I use a adhesive roller to check the sheets for flea droppings, fleas, etc.

Best of luck!

I used Frontline Plus on my kitties and it really helps kill all the fleas on the them. Before I used it, I had a lot of flea bites from the fleas that were around the house but now I'm not getting any bites at all, so I'm sure the Frontline was able to help with that. Then again, if there is a flea infestation you may need to use flea bombs in your home to get rid of them.

Do not use flea collars, as they won't work on your pet.

I use advantage directly on my pets but for the house, I use Adam's Flea spray. It is inexpensive and has a good smell too. Best of all you can use it directly on the animals also. There is spray and shampoo and they can be used on animals over 8 weeks old. Make sure if you treat your home with the spray, that you ventilate the area well. It kills the fleas immediately and get a flea comb to comb out the eggs. Adam's can be bought at most pet or farm supply stores and advantage you can get online at petshed or somewhere at a discounted rate. I use the origional advantage for dogs over 55 lbs and measure it out to put on my dog and cats. There are also websites that can tell you how to do that. Good luck with the termination!

You need a veterinary spot-on like Frontline, Advantage, or Revolution. Any one of these are great for fleas, just make sure it gets all on the skin of your pets, not their fur.

As for house treatment - get a spray from a vets like Indorex, Acclaim, Staykil or Skoosh. Don't fall into the trap of using store-bought products for either your pet or your house because they don't work - especially not flea collars!

Oh, and don't bath your pet to get rid of fleas. For one thing, it will deactivate and spot-on you use. If you require immediate death of all fleas, use either Frontline spray or a capstar tablet.

first of all don't waste your money on otc topical treatments they do not work, or flea collars they also do not work. you need to get frontline advantage or some other topical treatment from the vet. you can spray your house for the fleas your vet should have that also. if you use treatment on the cat fleas will pretty much just go away if they don't have anything to feed off of
