With the patch, you are getting a constant, timed dose of nicotine. When you smoke, the nicotine is delivered in 6-7 minute doses periodically. Since you don't smoke when sleeping, the effects of nicotine are not experienced during REM sleep, the dream state. I had the same problem when I quit using the patch. I then took it off before bed-time, and put a new one on each morning. The dreaming diminished immediately. Good luck on your quit.
