The best decision in a case like this is to send your Playstation 2 back to Sony for repair, especially if it is still under warranty. Trying to do the repairs yourself can do more harm than good, and if your warranty is still valid, it will definitely void it.

There is an especial spray for cleaning electronics, but spray costs more, than a new fan. Just remove the fan - it should be on a socket and take it to a good electronics store. I owned fat PS2, so I don't know, which fan is used in slim.

if not under warrranty why not try the do it your self repairs
the problem could be that you to clean it, to do that you need to take it appart and wipe the dust out of it with a cuetip thing
the white stuff could be dust
as far as the fan not turning i dont know what would cause that
but at least try the repairs if not under warranty what do u have to lose

if its out of warranty it would be cheaper to get a new ps2 because i got mine fixed a while ago and it cost £80 and a new ps2 cost about £40 with a game so you should get a new ps2

Just get a new machine...most cases it's just simple wear and tear and most warranties don't cover that. If the fan is burnt our then its pretty much done with, just get a new one.
