I'm doing a research on Multnomah Falls and my job is to play the ecologist and find solutions to the environment being threatened (which in my case is Multnomah Falls) However I can't seem to find any website or info that states that these Falls are being threatened...So my question is....is this environment being threatened or not? And if it is how? Please provide link if possible!!!!

The problems faced by Multnomah Falls are typical of the entire Columbia River Gorge Scenic area. In short, they get "loved to death." Here's the USDA FS website for more details:

In terms of toxics/pollution, it is pretty clean since it is runoff/spring fed.

It appears that it's part of an area called the Columbia Gorge, which is an environmentally sensitive area. A while back there was a plan to build an Indian Casino near there. It ended up being built somewhere else, but still within the Gorge area. There are also hotels and lodges, things that wouldn't be a concern normally, but take careful management in an area like this. See if these things help.

I don't know of any threat to the falls or the river above the falls, but the area below the falls is being trampled and with that amount of use I sure there is erosion and compaction of the soils, and pollution of the water. If you include the entire visitor area in your discussion of the falls, you could talk about those problems.

The Forest Service usually has studies and reports on their popular recreation sites, You should go to the web site listed above.

Multnomah Falls is doing just great, I climbed it a year ago (the ranger gave me a bad time for not paying the $3.00 fee). I'd be more worried about the Dalles Dam, Bonneville Dam, John Day Dam, McNary Dam, Ice Harbor Dam, and the Sandy River. b

I have to go to the fridge and get more Tillamook cheese, I'll be right back.....
