The Bible in itself is not religion.
It can be a religious symbol, and is so in various forms and under different names.
I believe the Bible is a book of instruction, using the language and symbolism of its time. It teaches, advises, consoles, congratulates, and a host of other verbs which document the life and time of Jesus and his followers.
One of the most wonderful things about the Bible here in America is that all of you can say what you've said about it without fear of reprisal.....There are people / cultures all around the world this very day that would be executed for expressing opinions as some of you have. And make no mistake about it, it was in THAT SUPPRESSIVE climate that these texts were written.
I would be curious...... indeed surprised to find even ONE person who has written here who has actually read the entire Bible....cover to cover......So please, remind me. It is on WHAT premise that you voice you strong, knowledgeable opinions?
When you read the Bible, don't read it with you mind......but with your mind AND heart.

The Bible is a book. It's just a book. It's a book a lot of people make a great big deal about. It's gone through countless revisions and translations. There are many different versions of it, but the fact remains that The Bible is a book.
You want to make the case that it's history and science without backing up that claim, that's your choice. You want to hate religion, that is also your choice. Attempting to rally people under your empty, shallow, poorly thought out cause is also your choice.
It's my choice to laugh at you and anyone who would join you.

I'm with you "secret agent man" I have read the Bible from cover to cover, and it has transformed not only my life but the life of people around me. Is it's powerful message that changes the life of those who are willing to apply what they read, unfortunately most people just read it like any other book.

Well, I do agree with you that I do not like religion. I do agree with you that the Bible is a History and does have science clues to it (archeology, astronomy for example), but I also view the Bible as God's word and communication to his creation. A love letter to his children as it often referred to as.
Religion is a whole different thing than a relationship with God. Many do not understand this.

The Bible is just a book and those that actively practice worship of it's characters are religious and hence the Bible serves to promote religion.I don't hate religion per-say.I just think the world could do without it.

Lose the scales from your eyes and the hate from your heart. The book is instructional, if you read with an open mind. The Bible shouldn't be read with the idea that Methuselah really was 900+ years old, etc. The truth is in the Love.
We're all "with you"; there's only one boat.

The bible isn't science. And unless it's true (which no one knows for sure), it isn't history. And it certainly isn't religion because
it's just a f***ing book.
Same as the Grapes of Wrath and Lolita and Macbeth. You can't base your entire belief system on a book.

I can't see how stories about giants being killed by a puny little dude using a sling with one stone in it ... or a superman losing his strength after some woman cuts his hair off, have anything to do with history OR science.
