If I were the uncle and I had people calling me after 30 years I would think "Oh great, so that confirms it. They all think I'm dying." It might be true but he doesn't need a daily reminder. A note, card or even a visit might be better than a phone call.

Actually, I went thru something similar. He is not related to me but I do see him as an uncle. He passed away last year. I was unable to travel to where he was hospitalized. The only alternative I had was to phone him. I did not send him any photographs of me but he did have some pictures of me and my sisters when we were younger. That seemed to satisfied him enough to remember us.
Trust me, a phone call goes along way. If you are able to travel to see him, do it. If you can send him things that would make you remember you, send it in.

The man is dying, and you sound more concerned about the uncomfortable feeling that will affect YOU more than him. I would make a visit instead. In the very least for your dad's sake, after all it is his brother. Stop being such a selfish *****.

Sure go ahead and be a lazy cold hearted person and send a card. Maybe some day someone will do you the same favor.

How about both? Send him a card/letter telling him that you will be calling him soon or leave your phone number.

The man is dying, is it too much to ask that he hear your voice and let him know you care? A note to someone on their deathbed is a very cold move.

maybe if you haven't seen him for 30yrs, can we assume that the same goes for your father??
if so then perhaps he is projecting his guilt onto you and wants you to call to appease his own.
if i am way wide of the mark,i apologise in advance.
