So the cat on the fiddle played hey-diddle-diddle,
a jig that would wake the dead:
He squeaked and sawed and quickened the tune,
While the landlord shook the Man in the Moon:
'It's after three!' he said.

I beleive since the cat had no opposable thumb, he didn't actually play it, he just mimed.
Milli Vannilly and Ms Spears joined in for seperate duets but then got found out, they were all placed into a burlap sack and thrown into the river.
Life can be so just at times

On the possibly faulty assumption that you wanted a serious answer to this question, the following web pages on the origins of the rhyme might shed some light on the matter.
It is rather ironic that fiddlestrings are called "catgut", don't you think??

...Oh I get it you've never seen a cat!
I think they might schmoo the fiddle and if you stand on them they can sound like a badly played fiddle, but actually play one...
Well it cost you points to ask that one, but I like your style!

'Hey diddle diddle,
the cat did a piddle,
all over the kitchen floor.
The little dog laughed to see such fun,
so the cat did a little bit more.'
