Although I am an atheist, having been raised Catholic I know the importance to people of having taken part of a sacrament such as baptism, communion, etc.... I would definitely congratulate someone; in the religious world, it is the same kind of step as graduating to another level. I think it's ridiculous that if you have a friend that's religious, as I'm sure most atheists have at least one, that you wouldn't congratulate them for what they consider to be taking an important step in their life. I mean, that would be like if you had a religious friend that didn't believe in evolution so they wouldn't congratulate you because you got a degree in science. I don't believe atheists should show the same intolerance that some of us accuse Christians as having. If someone achieved something they're are proud of, whether you agree with it or not, you should at least give it some sort of recognition.

Why would anyone want congratulations for being baptized? Baptism is nothing more a symbolic act which does nothing for anyone. It is like making the sign of the cross, it really means nothing, but some silly sign that someone thousands of years ago came up with and the rest of the people, being like the cattle they are, just followed along. So the answer to your question is, No I would never congratulate someone for doing something so insignificant as having someone else pour water on their head.

I've been baptized before, I got so many congrats and cards that I didn't know what to do with them.

I would let the person who was baptized be praised by their Christian friends but won't congratulate them myself. If the person baptized expects me to congratulate them knowing I am an atheist I have news for them (no) but if he or she doesn't know what I am then why is he or she expecting me to congratulate?

The thought of baptizing a child, who has no concept of religion or otherwise, could almost be classed as cruelty. Basically you're telling that child what to believe.

I certainly wouldn't congratulate the parents, however close they were to me.

Well if the person is excited about being baptized it would be nice if you would at least acknowledge their excitement. Just because you dont believe in the same things doesnt mean you have to be rude and not be happy that they are happy.

Most of my friends who are believers know better than to try and argue with me about religion. Mostly we talk of other subjects and not religion. If they told me they had gotten baptized I might say, "That's nice" and change the subject.

Of course not. Congratulations for what? I don't argue with people about their personal religious beliefs, but I'm not going to encourage them when I think it's insanity.

I could ask the Christians whether they'd congratulate somebody who just returned from Mecca; but what's the point.

BTW, it's nice that everybody thumbs up Spock for saying that he'd congratulate the just-baptized even though he doesn't get what the big deal is, but isn't that hypocrisy? Sure, it's polite hypocrisy, but still. No offense to Spock who I'm sure is cool.

If they tell me they just got baptized and seem happy about it, sure. Why not?

Lucifer doesn't like a human being saved, so he takes exception to the holy spirit coming into him because it is Lucifer for them and that is what they chose. An athiest would say that there is no holy spirit or God and he would be right because God left because Luciferians continue to choose Lucifer. So, there is no God or Holy spirit because of Lucifer and people continue to choose Lucifer instead of God who sent Jesus to end humans choosing Lucifer.

Congratulations for having Luciferians believe they have taken another human?
