all the really lonely and needy people around but never find and latch on to someone equally lonely and needy?
They sure find me pretty quick, or I stumble across them, but not each other.

Your question suggests that you are approachable and seem to attract friends. This is a good quality.
Do you also attract the more independent people? If you do you are a balanced person. The attraction for needful people suggest you are a giving person and all I can suggest is that you be patient and understanding.
Far better than I do you know what you have that you can spare and what you are willing to return to those who reach out to you.
I am glad to know you. By the way, I am not lonely or needful. But I do enjoy having friends.
