He is 3 yo sheltie. Has started grabbing anything from the counter / table and ate them with our 16 yo lab. I went out for an hr n came home seeing they hv got to the table n ate 4 pkts of instant noodles.
He is becoming more uncontrollable ... always looking for stuffs when no one is at home. We hv never had dogs that behave this way.
They are loving dogs but their behavior is unacceptable. What wld you do?

I have a VERY large dog who would open up all the cupboards and take out canned food and chew on the cans until there were holes punched into them. He also enjoyed raiding my refrigerator and would take all of the food out! I actually had to tape it shut with duct tape!
To prevent them from taking food off of your table and counters, don't leave any food laying around unattended! To prevent them from getting into your lower cupboards, if you have food in them, you need to get child safety latches for your cupboards!
To prevent this sort of behavior, make certain you leave plenty of food for them when you are away from your home!

There are two things you could try...
1. Kennels for both the dogs while you are out.
2. Train your dogs to not grab anything from the tables while you are there.
Most likely there is a bit of anxiety when you leave and they are both acting out. You have to catch them in the act, correct the behavior and continue doing it until they learn that they are not allowed to be anywhere near the table or counters unless you tell them to be there. Usually a pinch collar and a leash will help but you can always do what the Dog Whisperer does and just give them a quick hit to the neck as if you are biting them.
As Cesar Milan says... you need to be assertive and calm... :)

The key phrase in your writings was when no one is home. There are some dogs, like yours, who can't stand being home alone or with no humans I should say. They become destructive. It's not their fault, that's just the way it is. You need to change their environment, like put them in the basement while you're gone. I wouldn't put them in a kennel unless you're gonna be gone for some time. Kennel cough is really nasty this year the worse Vets have seen it in a long time.Good Luck.

Well, first you need to clear the counter of any goodies. Maybe that will help keep him down. If not, I reccomend a product called bitter apple, you can find it at most pet stores. Spray it on the edge, he will soon get the idea that there is nothing he wants up there. If that does not help try a training class. Good Luck!!!!

until your dogs' behavior is more controllable id make an extra effort not to leave things down in their reach < this includes where they can climb, stretch, jump to >.
as for improving their behavior, one of the greatest things ive done with my dogs is first of all, they only get fed twice a day. at that time i tell them to lay down and stay, then i pour and set out their food, they cannot go eat until i tell them. if they get up and go to their food i insist they lay back down and make them wait that much longer.
it takes a lot of work to get them to where they understand, and cooperate, but this will teach them that you are in charge and they are completely dependant on you for everything, esspecially the most important thing, food.
this will help earn their respect and give you control. then the other problem may solve itself.
good luck.

Hey, this is lucky me. I think you should get a kennel and put the dogs up when you leave and as well when they are being punished and this will controll the snack eating at the table.

Block off an area or room to leave them in when you are not home. At least until you can get them to stop.

Apparently he's bored and doesn't get enough attention or directed things to play with. If you leave him home alone too often, he is bored. Put him outside or confine him to one room where he won't ruin things. I think the problem is you don't spend enough time with him.

A few things. Keep them outside when you leave the house.
Crate them again when you leave. Otherwise take them to obedience classes.

Then you need to crate your dogs when they cannot be supervised 100%.
