I studied comparative world religion in college as a minor because I was curious. I find the same themes in all of them. A majority have the same common ground, its just the small details that are different.

Do you think that God has tried to contact us in many different ways and times and we have just interpreted the message differently? Do you think all these faiths are really for the same God?

My personal view is that this is evidence that we have interpreted the messages differently...but probably because God has tried to commune with us in many different ways. That didn't help did it?

Ok, I think the intention was not to create a million different fractioned religions but to create a unified one. -However, because we, as humans tend to break off over every little detail we've ended up where we are. Because we keep veering off in our own directions maybe God tries to give us hints here and there to keep us going in the right direction.

The Bible hints at a time when all people will see what God means clearly and will be unified in their beliefs.

I'm a Christian but I see so many places where Christians seem to be missing the point as well...I think we are all doing the best we can but because of human error and/or agenda we are all slightly off. -Or in some cases REALLY off.

God is constantly in communication with each and every one of us. Through the ages only a very few have expanded their awareness enough to communicate with God on a conscious level. Of those who have, only a few have had the natural human communication skills to be able to teach what God communicates with them to others. Of those, even fewer wrote anything down. As a result records of these teachings are sparse and scattered. Many have been added to through the years and the ages with the thoughts and imaginings of people who were not of the same consciousness as the original teacher. Of course all these teachings are from the same universal intelligence or God. There is only one God... He just isn't what most people (of any religion) think He is.

Our common ground is our common humanity.

There is no unified god concept common to all.

There is no unified way that each religion tells humans to connect to its god.

The only thing I know common to all is that found somewhere written by some wise person in each group, someone figured out that all humans are bretheren and it is better that we treat each other that way.

I don't know what the same common-ground is other than our humanity and that we are just one of many living beings sojourning on this planet together.

If it is the same god, he's seen by each group very differently. But then, we as humans tend to see each other differently, too.

you can believe in a god and not in a heaven or hell or in prophets or in angels, and several religions have none of those things

The common ground is simple - to believe in God.

Set religions aside and ask yourself -
Do I believe that there is a God?
Do I believe that my good and bad deeds will be judged on the day of Judgement?
And, do I believe that the good will go to heaven and the bad to hell?

Religion is just a way that makes you practice the above.

I do find a common ground. Every religion has a value to add. In my church we call it the Light of Christ. The Light of Christ is the divine influence that allows every man, woman, and child to distinguish between good and evil. It encourages all to choose the right, to seek eternal truth, and to learn again the truths that we knew in our premortal existence but have forgotten in mortality.

peace be upo you
You are right.
But the God to stop us from interpreting the message differently , he sent his last messenger Mohammed by his last message Quran , and Mohammed was sent to people everywhere as he is the last prophet.
You can find Islam is the only religion admit all other religions and prophets and believe in them and you can find in Quran the real stories about all messengers and these stories is the only stories can convince you.as in other books you can feel human interference in its writing.

Common ground?

Like what? After 150 wars and 50 million deaths due to religious difference... you talk about "common ground"?

Common things are fear, ignorance and politics.

Jesus says, I am the way the truth and the life, no one can come to the Father, but through me. There is only one way to the One and True God.

Ideally - Yes. It would be difficult to ascertain that any religion is the true or right religion so it would make sense that all religions lead to the same "goal."
