My son has always had the option of using the seat that fits on the toilet or his potty chair and has always chosen his potty chair. I didn't push one over the other, only encouraged him to use what he preferred (in hopes of succeeding in potty training).
I've never gagged from changing a diaper or pull up but I'm having a hard time cleaning his potty tray when he's finished (maybe the pregnant nose?). I want to introduce him to the seat on the toilet and was wondering if anyone had any suggestions, tips, or advice?

Also, when did your boy start standing to pee?

(He's 2 years and 8 months old and completely potty trained... if the potty chair counts, lol.)

Hi Nina,

My son wanted so badly to copy Daddy and Papa and the fact that they peed standing up that the potty seat didn't last too long. He started this quite early (around 2 1/2 years of age), but pooping never happened on the toilet until he was 3 years old. He never wanted to poop on the potty chair...just wanted that security of the diaper. After bribes and begging, he finally pooped on Father's Day last year in the toilet! What a gift for my husband! Haha! Since then, it's been smooth sailing with using the regular toilet.

I'm not sure on how to suggest the potty seat versus the chair, but what if the chair mysteriously disappeared? Would your little guy get thrown off by that? Would it encourage him then to use the potty seat on the toilet?

Good luck on whatever you decide to do! Potty training has been probably one of the most challenging obstacles yet!

The potty chair counts for sure! lol
I turned my son around backwards to potty on the toilet seat because 1, he thought it was cool for some reason, and 2, because he could hold on better and not fall in, lol. If he is having a hard time getting motivated to go #1, try dropping a couple cheerios in the toilet and letting him "aim" for them. If he is having a hard time going #2 he might need something sturdy to place is feet on, so try putting a stool in front of the toilet for him to (push) on. Sorry that is so graphic but it really does help. (and is probably one of the reasons your son prefers the potty chair, as his feet can touch the ground)
Good luck with the training, there is light at the end of the tunnel, I promise!! =]

My daughter actually prefers the big potty over her little potty chair. I would suggest getting one of those cushions with handles to fit on the big potty and also get a step stool. The handles and step stool make it much easier for them to get up on the potty themselves so that you're not always lifting them up yourself. I don't have a son, but from what I've read, to get them to pee standing up, put cheerios or something flushable in the toilet and have him try and "aim" at them. I've read that it works.

I started with my son standing to pee, believing that it speeds things along. I don't think it is ever too early or too late to switch. My son used The Potty Stool http://www.thepottystool.com, which let him get to the toilet safely without touching it. This stool makes every toilet kid-sized. And he had no problems standing to pee with this stool. My kids were excited about using the toilet and that helped them progress rapidly in potty training. The best part is kids use it for years. Hope this helps.

My two yr historic loves to visit the bathroom along with his dad - he sees dad sitting at the bathroom toilet and needs to take a look at the potty to be similar to him - so much youngsters love to mimic their mothers and fathers so take a look at getting him to take a seat at the potty even as as you. I am no longer even looking to rest room coach at this level - simply looking to preserve it a amusing factor to do. I suppose you do not must rush into it so DON'T PANIC. Wait a even as, preserve it amusing and subsequently he's going to recognize that crap to your naps isn't a well feeling.
