I'm supposed to have a VER (visual evoked response) test tomorrow. Can anyone explain it to me?

I've had this done, and variants, while doing research at Cambridge.

Basically, it involves attaching sensing electrodes (they don't give shocks) to the surface (they aren't needles) of the skull, so they can report on different levels of electrical activity in the brain as the eyes are exposed to different stimuli...
Flashes of lights, an alternating chequerboard...

It assesses aspects of the connection between the eyes and the visual cortex (brain region at the rear of the skull) without requiring the individual to report what they are seeing.

It's not painful or stressing!
But you will need to wash your hair to get the conductive gel out of it... Take a nice stiff brush to temporarily repair your hairdo.
