I have just held a strong magnet against my LCD monitor screen and it made no difference at all !!
CRT tubes can be degaussed or demagnetised by internal or external means but no permanent damage is done .
Cheers Pete

magnets do not affect plasma/lcd sets in the same way as their CRT counterparts because their image is not reliant on an electron beam. inside a cathode ray tube there is (among other things) a large metal plate called a shadowmask which is drilled with thousands of small holes-the electron beam has to strike these holes perfectly when a strong magnet is held close to a CRT set this can influence the direction of the beam pulling it out of alignment with its corresponding holes (directly in front of the shadowmask is the phosphor screen-the bit you can see) and so the beam cannot strike the red blue or green phosphors perfectly-this causes the violet/magenta colours sometimes seen in a magnetised CRT (the strange colours at the edge of the picture).

It won't affect the TFT(unless HUGE amounts of EMF are present), but what ever method of back lighting is used could be damaged by a constant magnetic charge.

I'm pretty sure they can damage any tv. Once the kid my mom babysits decided to run one of those letter magnets all over our tv it looked odd like if u run your finger over your monitor i think she damaged some of the pixels
