As a U.S. Army Engineer, let me give you some incite on how we think things out. Say you want to build a housing development, or improve/build a road. While your trying to do so, you really don't want bullets flying and IED exploding around you. So first you go through and clear out any enemies you encounter, the best you can. In doing so there is generally some collateral damage, the "destructiveness" you speak of, but wouldn't you much rather sacrifice a building, than a human life? Us Engineers are doing much more constructing of facilities in Iraq, than what we are destroying. Just stop believing everything you hear in the news. They only want to feed you the juicy stuff, and whats juicy about a soldier fixing a road, or building a house?

At some point you must free your mind from the media's grip. God gave humans this thing called free will, us it and form you own opinion on things. Realize that the media only shows the negatives and not the positives. Realize that the destruction being done over there is not being done by the Army, its done by those who want to see us fail, the insurgency. They are committing horrific acts in the hopes that the U.S. will be blamed or to worry the American people. Your attitude is playing right in to there hands because you believing it. Congratulations you are a tool of the Enemy. You are giving what they want, a weak minded American. The U.S. Army Core of Engineers have built millions of quality of life faculties to include but not limited to, hospitals, clinics, schools, community centers, power plants, water plants, sewage plants, bridges. You name it the U.S. of Engineers have built it. God bless America, and the soldiers deployed to Iraq!!

Armies are train troops for survival. If your country professioned you into an army, you may be placed into a place designated by a commando who leads the team assigned by the government to be there for legal war signed up by 2 leaders in black and white contract. If it is a contruction site, not a warzone and if the commando likes lego sets, you might be able to train lego builders. What if you are placed in a war zone where, if you do not protect youself, you will be tortured and killed on the spot, this is where fighting begins when armies are place in an unwanted or dangerous heavily armed zone. If you stay ignorant or idle, you will just stand there and get shot and say bye bye to the world. Put yourself in their shoes then you will understand

My God... it's the MILITARY, not the Red Cross. On that note, though, THEY DO. You just never hear about it. Women are going to school in Iraq... do you understand how huge that is for that area? No. Why? Because you take the freedoms and peace that you live in every day for granted. You don't hear about the GOOD troops do because the media doesnt want you to hear about it, because to the media it doesnt make a "grabbing" story. On top of that, if you did hear good, I'm sure you'd just say it's a bias opinon. Please do some research before you go off asking stupid questions. Oh, and let me guess, if we get attacked you just want to "talk" to the enemy, right?

That's the problem with the Democrats now... they just want to "talk" and be friends... and make our military into pu$$ies. It's stupid.

The job of the Army in its purist form is to confront and kill people that are deemed the enemy. Expecting the Army to be "nation builders" and "world police" is expecting it to do a task it is not primarily designed for.

In addition, why build housing etc. when there is still lots of enemy out there willing to blow it all up.

I believe you are thinking about the Peace Corp.

The army is designed to destroy things. Comfort has to be placed behind supplying our forces with good equipment and the gear needed to fight a war and gathering information. I'm a military fiction author and can speak with a lot of authority on this one.

They are doing that. Some friends of mine in the army assisted in the construction of schools. After the Tsunami struck in the Indian Ocean, the US army was at the forefront of cleaning and construction work. Believe it or not, but more of our army's operations are peaceful in nature across the globe instead of battle-oriented operations.

If you paid some attention to what is actually going on over there you would know the Army Corp or Engineers has provided more infrastructure improvements in Iraq since the war has began than Iraq did in the 20 years before.

Have you not heard of Humanitarian Aid, most of which requires security, ie the army.
Spending millions on tanks provides some security for the army.

Silly girl. The primary job of any army to break things and kill people. Of course when an enemy invades this militaryless country you envision then we'll just give them a house.
