Is it a matter of the former beliefs having religious texts to back them up? Is it the age of the belief system...the number of people who subscribe to the belief? Or what?

Jehovah God has authored a book called "the Bible", which has proven to be incomparable in its consistency (despite some forty writers over 3500 years), its scientific accuracy (despite being written long before the "discovery" of principles to which it alludes), its candor (in describing even the shameful conduct of some of its "heroes"), and the ongoing fulfillment of its remarkable prophecies.

Buddha is not a god, he is a man who died many years ago and who no longer exists in any plane, that is the point of nirvana.

Allah and God and Jehova are the same entity with different names.

God provides an answer to some unanswerable questions or to questions that do not currently have answers. God is something billions believe in, something that has inspired books, architecture and war.

Unicorns do none of these. However they do share some common traits, that there is no direct evidence for the existence of either.

I just finished reading a book called "Godless" - (it's for teens) in which a group of teens decide that they will worship a water tower as their God. One of the kid's says - you have to believe in something before you really know what you think about it. It kind of makes sense to me.

I believe that God is LOVE. The Power of Love. I experience It all the time. Hugs, smiles, kind words - etc. That's all LOVE - which I believe to be God. On the other hand - I don't believe in unicorns - because I have never seen one - and I have no experience with them.

I think the age of a belief and the number of people who subscribe to a belief both have a huge effect on it growing. Many parents force their religions on their children because they really believe that they are in THE RIGHT religion. Very sad - in my opinion.

Many people rely on regious texts. I find it incredible to what degree they do it. People live their entire lives based on what is said in the Bible or the Koran - or what they interpret it to say - or what somebody else interpreted it to say. Scary.

Namaste!!.

I dont know how many billions of people believe in unicorns. Unicorns also cant give personal revelation of their existance. God can. But who knows. I have never really prayed to the unicorns to find out if they are true. I guess I just dont think they have anything I really want.

Belief in a higher creative being with ultimate power vs. mythological created horse with horn mash up? Not sure if I can see any difference there! We need to get of the whole old white-haired bearded G-d look and "how are these two invisible made up things alike". G-d is real. if it takes you too long to realize that, (no matter what name G-d is called), you will be too late, period.

You spend more time and effort learning how to spell unicorns. (Hint: B-u-d-d-h-a)

Now all joking aside, each person must find or realize his or her own path. Anyone who practices any religion or believes in any mythology just because someone told them to, currently or historically, is not evolving spiritually or intellectually--in my opinion. Life experience backs up the path (or paths) one chooses, or one should choose another path. It's all the same journey ultimately--the same destiny.

The difference is this: people who believe in unicorns are far more welcome here than people who believe in a God.
