"Don't kill for immoral reasons or illegally, but justifiable killing is okay."

Then could "Don't lay with another man" really mean "Don't lay with another man for immoral reasons or illegally, but laying with another man justfiably is okay."?

Has any Christian read the question and put any thought into answering? Murder is basically the definition I gave.

The actual wording was closer to MURDER rather than just kill. The translation was bad.

The commandment did not address capital punishment or war.

This is shown due to the fact that breaking any of the ten commandments was a capital offense (that would mean that the person carrying out the execution would have to be executed himself, and so on, and so on).

Sarcasm doesn't work well, the translation for the passage of men laying with men is directly translatable to English, there is a one word english equivelent. The thou shallt not kill--there is no single english word which correctly describes the intent of the original language. King James used kill, a generic term as opposed to the quite specific guideline in the commandment. Basically best translated as thou shallt not commit first degree murder, other than on the battlefield in war. Common sense prevails, the armies of Judah would have all been violating this commandment when taking anyone from the Egyptians to the Phillistines to battle and killing them. The basic commandment simply says you should not committ premeditated murder unless you are in a war/self defense.

If every word of the bible is not true and we can't rely on the translation how will I know which parts to listen to and which ones are in error. Because god doesn't speak for himself The book is all we have and it has to be perfect. If it is not all correct it is worthless because i don't know what is correct and what its not. Which parts are mans entries and which are the actual word of god.

Not to mention many of the people that where considered men of god where deviants and murderes.

Paul used to kill christians then converted so its cool now.

David murdered bathshibas husband so he could slip her the noodle

Noah was married to his sister

Was it abraham whos daughters got him drunk to sleep with him and have children?

Add this to all the murdering in that book and I would say my kids should not read it.

in the 10 commandments it says do not murder. Murder is the sensless taking of a life for no reason. Killing is different. While killing isn't a good thing - sometimes it is necessary. For instance, protecting yourself, loved ones. Protecting your country. And for those who believe in it, the death penalty. There are times when killing is justifiable.

Most of the killing in the bible is totally immoral. God kills lots of people for

1. Being members of some other ethnic group than Jewish

2. Being Jewish, but disobeying His rules.

3. Arbitrarily--being in the wrong place at the wrong time.

4. Deliberately--as capital punishment.

There are just as many situations where God likes killing as when He doesn't, according to the bible. I guess sex or anything else is about the same.

It was written for Jews. OT, remember. It meant Jews shouldn't kill... Jews

It you pay close attention, they were murderous little bastards and "God" was the ring leader.

I do like your analogy though.

"Could you define "justifiable" laying with another man that is not immoral or illegal?" - Sure, laying with another man. It is only immoral according to you and ancient texts depending on the interpretation, and guess what, It is only illegal in places like Iran. Need help moving?

everyone will disagree w/ me on this and i'll probably get 10 thumbs down or more, but in the Bible, it DOES say that if one man kills another man wrongly, it is ok for that man to be put to death. i'm not sure where this is in the bible, but i have read it before, maybe someone else will know what i'm talking about?

So are you advocating that christians have to let themselves be killed if someone is trying to kill them just to make an illogical point?

The justifications for every action are different depending on what it is you are doing. You cant apply the arguments to one topic to a totally different topic when debating issues.

Wow, that seems pretty silly. I think the commonly accepted interpretation of "thou shalt not kill" is "thou shalt not murder", which obviously does not include capital punishment, self-defense, or justifiable killings during war.

Could you define "justifiable" laying with another man that is not immoral or illegal?
