Paint Stirring

I think there are some paints that shouldn't be stirred, it should say on the tin.

If it does need stirring it's OK to use a wooden spoon, but you won't be able to use it for cooking afterwards. I keep an old wooden spoon (the spoon bit cracked) for paint stirring, using the handle part.

a lot of paint stores will give you a handful of wooden sticks to use. You should either shake the can before opening it or stir it because the paint will separate. If you use a wooden spoon it should be ok, but do you want to mess up your wooden spoon to stir paint? The spoon won't be usable afterwards.

Yes - A spoon will work but a flat stick would be better. If the paint has been sitting a while you'll feel the settlement with the stick at the bottom of the can. Mix it up so that you will have even consistency in the whole can. Go to a home Depot or any paint store and ask for a couple of paint sticks - usually free. They have sticks for one gallon size and for five gallon size cans- you didn't mention what size you had.

You can do but it's a bit of a waste of a wooden spoon, you do need to stir the paint though, try an old knife, or something old you can use more than once.

Yes, even if the can is shaken at the store.
A wooden spoon would work ok or one of the free stir sticks that the paint store GIVES AWAY.

Read the label. Most paints need stirring, but non-drip gloss mustn't be stirred.

A wooden spoon would do. A flat wooden stick is better. (Now you know why men collect flat wooden sticks). When you've stirred, clean up your stirrer with the paint brush and you can use it again another day.

If it is liquid paint then yes, but the best way is to do what we used to do when i worked in a paint and wallpaper shop, before you remove the lid, shake it very hard up and down, you can hear the paint splash around, it will then be well mixed and ready for use. If it is none drip then you don't stir it as stirring will make it liquid and no longer none drip.
