Hi. I agree that marriage is a sacred union between male and female only, within God's kingdom, and His laws. Civil law is a different matter all together. They rarely coincide with God's laws. Gay and Christian are mutually exclusive terms, as Jesus says if you love me you will keep my commandments, and if a person says they love Him and do not keep his commandments, they are a liar and the Truth is not in them. So if gays want a civil union, let 'em. There should be NO Church sanctioned gay marriage, though. As we are all very well aware, in America we have a thing called separation of Church and State. If civil law wants to allow the union of gays and lesbians, so what? It has nothing to do with faith or the Church...it has to do with a morally bankrupt world and a corrupt government. Our country has laws allowing all sorts of rubbish, so why should this be any different? How corrupt was Roman government during the time of Christ? He said to obey the laws of the land, and keep your eyes toward heaven. Jesus also said while we are in the world not to be OF the world. If we all did that, well, we wouldn't concern ourselves quite so much with things of this world... As far as gay adoption goes, well, I'm against it, but again, none of us can choose our parents, whether they are "good" [or not], whether they are Christian [or not], whether they are abusive [or not]. Heterosexual atheists can and do have children, and raise them with their humanistic belief system. We cannot decide who has children and who does not, just because we do not agree with them (at least not in America). When we are adults, we must choose how we will live our lives and whether or not to accept Christ, no matter how we were raised or who raised us.

My denomination (the Christian Church, the Disciples of Christ) believes that each person is free to worship and interact with God in the way God calls each person.

We don't have rules or dogma, outside a personal involvement with the Holy Spirit and the Bible.

Where the Bible speaks we speak, where the Bible is silent, we're silent.

So if a congregation calls a homosexual minister to lead a church, that's between a congregation and God, and the minister.

Understand -- "Gay" or "lesbian" isn't a sin. Gay is a noun, it's not a verb. The noun isn't a sin.

Sex out of marriage is a sin. So, ironically, people having sex out of marriage sinfully are passing judgement on gay people who may be celebate and not having sex out of marriage.

So, Biblically, who's sinning? A gay 35 year old, who is celebate? Or a sexually active heterosexual, unmarried 35 year old?

(The Bible says it's the heterosexual)

Godspeed.

I don't see why gay people would want to associate with an organization that has historically been against them. What's next, Jews for Hitler? Besides, there are so many other valid reasons to not want to be Christian - not the least of which is the fact that the entire religion is founded on notorious lies.

That said, it really pisses me off when these "Christians" on here say things like "God says homosexuality is wrong." Oh yeah? Well, it's cute that you're speaking for God, but what are you basing that on? Leviticus? Aren't you always saying that "Christians" aren't bound by Mosaic Law? Don't bother quoting Paul, either - Paul wasn't talking about "homosexuality" as such in his letters, but about male-on-male rape, male prostitution, etc. (Besides, most scholars agree that many of "Paul's" letters weren't actually written by Paul.)

Still, believe whatever you want. If you're ignorant and bigoted enough to believe that your religion sanctions your irrational hatred of an entire class of people, good for you. Frankly, it's not even anywhere near the nuttiest of your ideas.

First of all there is no such thing as a gay christian! There is
only a Christian, and know! Gays that don't repent and turn away from there sin should not be allowed to teach in any form, It is forbidden by God.

God loves you....God bless

let me try and explain this- Even though gays and lesbians are loved by God, because God so LOVED THE WORLD, that does not mean someone living in sin, of any kind, should be in leadership of a church. I would say the same if a man was a pastor and having an affair with a woman. What God says is wrong, is wrong. What I just said was not saying I do not love them. It just says, what God says, goes, not us.

No one ever said that homosexuals aren't people, they are people. It's not our right to choose if the Bishops can be women or homosexuals, it's the church authority, not ours. For those of you who don't believe in the Bible, why not? It's a historical document that contains information just as any other historical document. So you don't believe in History?

Not if they are openly gay. That would kind of contradict christian theology. I'm not sure but I would guess living a life contrary to Christian theology would not be a good quality for leading Christians.

On the other hand, if the person is "gay," but living their life in accordance with Christian teaching - living a chaste life, then I don't see why not.

nope
1 Timothy 3
1 This is a true saying, if a man desire the office of a bishop, he desireth a good work.

2 A bishop then must be BLAMELESS, the HUSBAND of one wife, vigilant, sober, of GOOD BEHAVIOUR, given to hospitality, apt to teach;

3 Not given to wine, no striker, not greedy of filthy lucre; but patient, not a brawler, not covetous;

4 One that ruleth well his own house, having his children in subjection with all gravity;

5 (For if a man know not how to rule his own house, how shall he take care of the church of God?)

6 Not a novice, lest being lifted up with pride he fall into the condemnation of the devil.

7 Moreover he must have a GOOD REPORTof them which are without; lest he fall into reproach and the snare of the devil.

8 Likewise must the deacons be grave, not doubletongued, not given to much wine, not greedy of filthy lucre;

9 Holding the mystery of the faith in a pure conscience.

10 And let these also first be proved; then let them use the office of a deacon, being found blameless.

11 Even so must their wives be grave, not slanderers, sober, faithful in all things.

12 Let the deacons be the husbands of one wife, ruling their children and their own houses well.

13 For they that have used the office of a deacon well purchase to themselves a good degree, and great boldness in the faith which is in Christ Jesus.

Guess not. If your in open sin not wanting to repent God wont use you. Cant be women because they are female. God wrote the law not me

Bishops and elders are denominational offices, so it depends on the denomination. Some allow it, some don't.

All Christian leaders who harbor unrepentant sin in their lives are hypocrites.

We all sin. We all are sinners. Yet, to the faithful, when sin occurs or is discovered, the person is convicted and repents. To continue to sin, and try to lead others in Christ is hypocritical.
