Now when we could use some REAL guidance, he's been quiet for a couple of MILLENIA. And don't tell me you just have to listen. If I see burning shrubbery and it starts to talk, I'll listen. That's the kind of contact I mean. Send us another kid to torture, or let somebody live in a whale for while, or any other of the wonderous tales from the bible. There seems to have been no end of proof back then, when people believed that illness was caused by goblins in your stomach and nothing could be acurately recorded and documented.

As usual, it's my inability to listen and hear and see the signs. OK. Well, that explains that. About converts, put anybody in a really crap situation and then offer them a story about salvation. You'll get converts. Check with some ex-prisoners who've suddenly found God.

You must have been reading the Bible without any idea of the vast time-scale from Genesis to Revelation. It covers 4,000 years! If you check the time gaps, you will see that there were often hundreds of years go by when there was no 'word from the Lord'. God rarely spoke to anyone, but when he did, the event was entirely memorable and was recorded. He used various means to do this; dreams, visions, prophets, natural events... as well as occasionally talking and conversing with people.

Unfortunately the world is so full of sceptics, even a modern-day burning bush or a whale spewing up mariners would be explained away by them as anything BUT God 'speaking' to us. Jesus said that if they did not believe Moses, neither would they believe if someone returned from the grave - as he did. You don't believe that either, do you? I rest my case.

I'll assume you stopped listening in Sunday School when you were 10, because that's your level of understanding and knowledge of the Bible.

In the Bible stories, God didn't talk to 'everyone,' God sent messengers. And people didn't pay attention to them.

God sent a Holy Son, and people didn't pay attention to Him.

Today, God speaks to your heart, and you don't pay attention to Him.

Other people are guided by God everyday, you just aren't listening, or you're not liking what you're being told. But God speaks, every day.

Recent converts know exactly what I'm saying, because they understand what it was like when they didn't hear God, and when they suddenly DID hear God.

Godspeed.

God was actually talking through a medium so to speak, such as through his messangers the angels, or spoke to some in their dreams, and the one whom he spoke to , such as Moses , relayed the message to the people

Because Jesus had not died then and so God had to deal directly with mankind. After Jesus died and rose again He sent us the Holy Spirit which dwells in us all of time, so we are to be witnesses for HIM!

God does talk to us directly but not as overtly as the bible says. It is not just about listening, it is about being alert and paying attention to what happens around you. God speaks in every experience that occurs. You can either tune in or tune out.

Because as evil grew in the world he had to withdraw. God is Holy and can not be in the presence of evil, that is why he came up with the plan of permanent redemption. God does not come to me physically but he has sent people at times who spoke for him and I do feel his presence with me and hear him speak to me in my mind and heart.

True All those really miraculous things just happened to have occurred in biblical times. Somehow, amazingly, they never happen now. I like how the fundies shuck and jive when confronted with this.

My best guess would be that God is watching another channel that gives him better reception.
