I just got my tongue pierced 3 days ago they had to do it kinda off to the right side because I have a big vein, well I wake up today and the right underneath of my tongue is kinda purple while the opposite side is not... Is this typical bruising or should I be a bit concerned.. and how should I go about getting it to go back to the normal color and stop hurting because the left side dosnt at all.

Go to a studio and have a piercer look at it. Make sure you're going to someone who is experienced. I had to take mine out because the guy that did it made it of center and slanted. I went to a different place and the piercer there had been doing it for over 10yrs,maybe 15yrs, I can't remember, and had a nursing background. She took a look at it and told me it was done wrong and I had her take it out. If I hadn't, I would've never been able to buy standard sized bars because the slant was so bad. I needed a longer bar. Plus other issues, but i'm not going to bother with those.

My point, go see someone who is extra qualified and get their opinion.

As a person who has had his tongue pierced AND has three friends who are professional piercing artists, I can tell you that this is normal. The swelling should go down in about another week or so.

DO NOT use straws, smoke, or use anything that requires you to suck as this can lead to complications. That also meant no oral sex for a month after regardless if you're male or female.

Also, use mouthwash after any meals, snacks, teeth brushing, cigarettes (if you must) or any other time you put something in your mouth. And dilute the mouthwash as to not burn your taste buds off. A good mixture should be anywhere from 70% water/30% mouthwash to a 50/50 mixture. No more.

Be ready to play with that thing constantly when it finally heals. Don't overdo it though, as you could tear your tongues flesh if you are rough with it. Say goodbye to any enamel you had on your teeth as well as it will slowly start to rub off. In the first year after having it in, you will have to learn how to talk and eat again. Biting down on it by accident sucks!

I finally took mine out when it chipped my tooth.

When I got my tongue pierced I felt miserable for 2 weeks. Everyone has different healing time. I would say slight discoloration does occur because you are spreading webbing and blood vessels in the tongue. If it becomes to painful and it is bleeding or overly swollen go to the doctor as soon as you can. Keep in mind, the tongue is the strongest muscle in the human body so it will be uncomfortable for awhile. Remember lots of water and don't eat hard food.

i've had my tongue pierced for about a year. i don't think that sounds normal but it's hard to tell w/o a picture. it could just be scar tissue that will clear up with sea salt and massages. it can't hurt to pop into the piercing place and let them see.

also DON'T suck on lollies and ice. that is most ridiculous advice. sucking makes it worse. you should hold ice chips in your mouth and slowly let them dissolve.

but like i said, it can't help to pop by your piercer and ease your mind.

Have a professional piercer look at it, and if you are still concerned, see a doctor.

Oh ya, things rot before they fall off. Didn't the warnings they gave you include that?
