I am in a lovely old house with a couple of old women (no idea who there are)but there is a door leading to a staircase that I am too scared use, when I have no choice but to open the door I wake up terrified (heart banging, sweating!)! I have had this dream maybe 3 or 4 times a year for as long as I can remember, what does it mean?

Lovely old house = somwhere you feel comfortable yet is still rather foreign to you (because of its age).

Old female strangers = dependants, or representing a warped familial situation (as I'd have expected a male and female, as in pair of parental figures).

Door to staircase = leading to a challenging situation.

Forced to open it = lacking motivation or confidence, yet being pushed to make a decision.

It could signify that you are in what appears to be a comfortable situation on the outside. Inside this situation, however, you feel isolated and cheated of something (maybe, independence.) However, you feel afraid to leave, yet something - either your repressed desire to move on, or something within the house - is pushing you on. Being forced to open the door could mean that you know you will soon have to make a tough decision that appears to have scary or mysterious consequences.

I hope this helps.

The house represents your life (are you lovely and old, by any chance?). The door is a metaphor for crossing the threshold to a new phase in your life. You know it goes to a staircase (up to a more enlighted spot) but you don't want to go there.

There is a something that you do not want to face in your life, although facing it could lead you to a better place in life.

Not sure about the two women - two is the number of duality (good-evil, right-wrong, yes-no) and the fact that they are older and female could represent wisdom.

House- To see a house in your dream, represents your own soul and self. Specific rooms in the house indicate a specific aspect of your psyche. In general, the attic represents your intellect, the basement represents the unconscious, etc. If the house is empty, then it indicates feelings of insecurity. If the house is shifting, then it suggests that you are going through some personal changes and changing your belief system. If you live with others in your walking life, but dream that you are living alone, suggests that you need to take new steps toward independence. You need to accept responsibilities and be more self-reliant.

To dream that you are cleaning your house, signifies your need to clear out your thoughts and getting rid of old ways. You are seeking self-improvement.

To dream that your house is broken into, suggests that you are feeling violated. It may refer to a particular relationship or current situation in your life. Alternatively, it indicates that some unconscious material is attempting to make itself known. There are some aspects of yourself that you have denied.

To see an old, run-down house in your dream, represents your old beliefs, attitudes and how you used to think or feel. A situation in your current life may be bringing about those same old attitudes and feelings. Alternatively, the old house may symbolize your need to update you mode of thinking. If the house is new, then it indicates that you are entering into a new phase or new area in your life.

Elderly women- To see an old woman in your dream, indicates aging and growing old.

Door- To dream that the doors are locked, signifies opportunities that are denied and not available to you or that you have missed out on. In particular, if you are outside the locked door, then it suggests that you are having some anti-social tendencies. If you are inside the locked door, then it represents harsh lessons that need to be learned.

Staircase- To see a staircase in your dream, symbolizes change and transformation.

Fear- To dream that you feel fear, signifies that you achievements will not be as successful as you had anticipated. You are having anxieties in certain circumstances of your life.

I think that perhaps it means that you are complacent with your place in life right now, but you know in your heart that you have a greater potential, but are afraid to take the chance. As you lay in bed before falling asleep, replay the dream in your mind and see if you can convince yourself that something wonderful is on the other side of the door, and then open it.

It is not the easiest to interpret
Just this once I will suggest regression into past life's.
Now let's look at it practically. You like to have choice. You dislike being forced as this denies your natural independence. A secret you want to keep (from little?) but one day you will need to open pandoras box.
If the secret is from when you were a little child then it will have even litteler meening as you are now in the adult world.

It seems such as you get under pressure approximately how lots you're able to do for the period of that factor. the full room shows the overload of paintings you're able to do, the empty room shows which you merely % peace. consistent with probability you're able to decrease down a splash at Christmas time, or start up making plans in the previous to decrease your rigidity point.
