The term electric motor is so improperly used because it is too generic since there are many different types of electric motors that have widely varying characteristics so I am going to name exactly what type of motor is used in each appliance.

Kitchen Exhaust fan and bathroom exhaust fan:

Motor type: Induction
Design: Shaded Pole
Characteristics: very weak torque, only useful for its cheapness for fan use.

Dryer and washer:

Motor Type: Induction
Design: Induction start/ induction run
Characteristics: Good starting torque

Blender and Vacuum cleaner:

Motor Type: Universal brushed
Design: Brushed armature rotor with electromagnet field coils.
Characteristics: Speed is determined by voltage applied. High power in a lightweight package. Can run on AC or DC.

Air compressor

Motor Type: Induction
Design: Capacitor start/ induction run or capacitor start/ capacitor run. (2 humps on motor frame)
Characteristics: Excellent starting torque.

Battery operated shaver

Motor Type: permanent magnet DC
Design: brushed armature with permanent magnet stator.
Characteristics: fair torque. Can only run on DC. Speed is determined by voltage applied.
