Yes, get some Frontline. All of the things you've tried so far do not work. This is such a common occurence - people try store-bought stuff because they don't want to shell out for Frontline, and they end up spending far more than they would've on Frontline, just trying to find something that works!
Do save up for some Frontline for your poor dog, it isn't that expensive. Ring around vets and see who supplies it the cheapest. I think it's cheaper than Advantage - I THINK. Ask.
One last thing - make sure it gets on your dog's skin, not his fur, when you apply it.
And yes, some dogs, like people, are more susceptible to fleas than others. Chances are your other dogs DO have them, but just aren't bothered by them. The fleas will turn to them when they can no longer bite one dog, so ideally you should treat all your dogs or you may never see an end to your flea problem.

EDIT: Frontline is NOT TOXIC! For God's sake! It stays on the skin of the animal, it does not even enter the body!! And water and ordinary detergents do NOT work - if they did, would the market for flea treatments really exist?! How is anyone supposed to catch every flea in the environment and drown it? What about the flea eggs, they're microscopic for God's sake!

I've used both... I use Advantage for my indoor cats. And I used Frontline Plus for my Dogs. They both work well... On the package of Advantage is says you can use 1 a week, if you have a infestation of fleas. Which is what I had to do because we were taking care of my friends dogs and they gave my cats fleas like crazy they were jumping everywhere in the room! SO GROSS!!! So I bought Advantage and used one on my cat Luna and the other on my cat Kayla.. waited 2weeks and added the next ones again to make sure all fleas are DEAD!!! I haven't seen one flea since! I have used Frontline on my cats too, but it does not say anywhere that you may use it more than once month. Hope that kinda helped lol

I am sorry to hear about your dogs flea problem. Its a huge pain in the butt. Frontline, in my opinion is the best. I usually buy a 3 month supply for around $45.00, but my dog weighs 80 lbs. It all depends on how much your dog weighs. Advantix is more expensive and less effective if you ask me. I have tried both. Flea shampoos don't work well at all. Maybe for a day or two. They usually only start to create skin problems. So I would suggest, getting the frontline, for you and your dogs sake and winter is just around the corner so that should rid the flea problem for a good while. Good luck!

It works- we are using Frontline now. The fleas were so bad over the summer months that I also had to spray the yard - remember that the frontline only kills the fleas that get on your dog, so if the yard and house are infested too, you will probably have to treat those areas as well. I started using it a few years ago because they got REALLY bad here in south florida, and I was spending all my free time and tons of money flea combing, washing, dipping, spraying the yard and bombing the house, and we still had fleas. Its about 10 per treatment per dog, not too bad when you figure you only need to do it once a month. If you are lucky enough to have winter where you live, you can probably skip the winter months.

Frontline and advantix are very scary as dogs are pron to being sluggish and even have seizures while on them. I would get some neem spray and spray him down every time you feed him. Neem is a tree from India that has been used as an insect repellent for thousands of years. I would also get him on a food with no yeast or beet pulp as these two ingredients are like insect magnets. Treat the yard after every rain with diatomatious earth. you can find this at farm stores. this will kill all insects in the yard. It is very safe for dogs and kids. Below is a site that you can find all these things. The total cost that will last you for 6mo to a year is around $45. Good luck.

Hi, I hope this helps:
Frontline is toxic - Unfortunately veterinarians promote products which do work, but one is not warned about the side effects. Please do research on these products which are truly toxic to animals and could be to humans. Try alternative safer methods. Try 100% Neem oil and place a few drops in the dogs shampoo and conditioner. It smells awful, but it kills and deters fleas. However some animals find it irritating. Unfortunately something that works for one person's animal may not work for another. So trial and error is the key.
You might not even have to buy flea control products:
Non-toxic way to kill fleas - Water. Yes, drowning works. Want proof? Take a flea comb and put the captured fleas into a glass of water.
You can see them start to drown.
Train your pet to be at ease when submerged in water up to it's neck. My cats don't mind this anymore. While doing it, remember you need 2 minutes plus.
I suggest going in stages, while constantly reassuring your pet of the wonderful treats it will get later. Keep it up to it's neck in water. Next, get the flea comb on the face and neck. Be very careful not to scratch the pet around the eyes or ears. Fleas are pretty smart and try to get away from water.
Any detergent will kill flea eggs. You don't need pesticides. Remember to thoroughly rinse your pet after bathing it.
At the end of the day, water is just fine for killing fleas.
OR....
Remove any fleas from your pet using a fine-toothed pet comb designed for flea removal, and drop the fleas into soapy water to drown them.
Fact about fleas:
Fleas fight to stay alive in heat, but have only 1% chance of living.

Advantix is cheaper, but it is by prescription only which means your dog would have to have been to your Vet within the last year for them to dispense it. Frontline is over the counter. Both aren't that expensive, where I work we will dispense it month to month so people don't have to buy an entire 4 or 6 pack....they average about 10-14 dollars per month. I've always used Frontline or Advantix and they both work great! Good luck!

K9 Adavantix is the best I have 7 dogs and I find it better than Frontline, I know it may cost alittle bit more, but for you dog his or hers peace of mind of not having to chase them fleas he or she will feel better and so will you.

Most vets sell Frontline on a one tube basis. It runs about fifteen dollars. And it is one of the greatest products ever invented.
Before Frontline, I used Program which was a pill that runs about $7 a month. Frontline is better though. I love it.
