I have gone with chemotherapy because it was a peace of mind thing for me to know that I was taking something to kill the spread of the disease and to prolong my life. Everyone is different and so is the chemotherapy. Today's chemotherapy is alot better than the past and you do not get sick. If you have a reaction they are there and take control of asap. The advantages and disadvantages depends on the degree of cancer where it is and if it can prolong your life to how you want to live.

The only advantage of Chemotherapy appears to be that it may take cancer in remission. You must be knowing meaning of remission.
In some cases, remission achieved by Chemotherapy may last quite long and in some quite short viz. from couple of years to couple of weeks.
The list of disadvantages is quite long and vary with drug to drug called protocol and its duration called cycles.
It is also observed that a protocol during one cycle and same protocol during other cycles may have drastically different favorable results or side effects.
However, it is always said and appears to be correct that in cases of Cancers and its treatments, never go by statistics and results of others as same vary from person to person on a scale of 100 between 0 to 100.

The advantage is that chemo will reduce the probability of the cancer spreading to another part of the body. The disadvantages are the side effects which vary with the type of chemo and from person to person.

It all depends on how much you like getting an IV. For me, IVs take a while since they can't always find a good vein. With my port, it is a 30 second stick that the chemo clinic has yet to miss. IVs can also collapse, and since I was wearing a pump for a week for one chemo drug, the port provided an additional safety factor over the possibility of a collapsed vein.

They vary from person to person, from cancer to cancer, and from stage to stage, as well as from protocol to protocol. In my case, I had stage II colon cancer, with surgical removal followed by three series of chemo. The first series resulted in all the uncomfortable side effects. After the protocol was changed (same dosage, but different administration technique), there were no side effects at all. I later learned that researchers have found that there are no significant curative or preventive advantages to chemotherapy following successful removal of a stage II colon cancer tumor (and the nearby intestines). Email me if you want more details of my case.

It kills the cancer cells. It cannot distinguish between good cells and bad cells. It also destroys the good body cells. Results in hairloss, skin deformity, weight loss, too painful etc. Avoid if you can. Ther are some herbal supplements to nullify the side effects of chemo.

It is a necessity to undergo chemotherapy for cancer. It is not about advantages or disadvantages. It is all about getting cured.
