and keep judging Islam based on the actions of a few extreme individuals who’ve taken it upon themselves to do the most heinous crimes in the name of Islam

Prophet Muhammad saws siad:
"Anyone who kills a Non-Muslim who had become our ally will not smell the fragrance of Paradise." (Bukhari)

Whoever kills a soul, unless for a soul, or for corruption done in the land - it is as if he had slain mankind entirely. And whoever saves one, it is as if he had saved mankind entirely

[Qur'an 5:32

Let there be no misunderstanding: Islam forbids the killing of innocent civilians, wherever and whoever they may be, in absolute terms.

No it's not. First of all, you are only innocent in islam if you are a Muslim. allah, Muhammad and Muslims themselves have made that very clear. Another word game you guys use.

For every nice, loving verse you give in the quran, we infidels can give you another that shows the exact opposite, and some of those violent verses will null and void your peaceful one. You seem to forget that we know about abrogated verses. islam is so deceitful.

I don't believe all Muslims want to kill. That's stupid. I do believe many Muslims would do it if given the chance simply because allah and Mo said so. That's scary, but that's islam.

Maybe you should ask some Muslims why they don't know killing is forbidden. They're the ones doing it!

God Bless.

Because its not just a few Muslims, and few Muslims have spoken out against all the killings. Taliban executing men and women in the town square, Somalis killing each other for who knows what reason. Saddam gassing Kurds. And nearly every country chopping someone head off. What do you expect. Certainly we expect everyone to think America is full of gangs, murders and mobsters(we even glamorize it). So why wouldn't we think the worst of Muslims.

We think of Buddhist as peaceful because the monks in Myanmar protest by willing to be beaten without resistance. Yet the "army" is also probably Buddhist. Jewish people were though peace full until after the Holocaust and the birth of Israel.

It is time for great leaders to come out for Islam and tell the world when Muslims are doing wrong. I would suggest that they tell the Muslim publicly when they are doing wrong first. Then even if the bad guys are in charge, you might get a better understanding of Islam.

When one of the most outspoken voices of Islam says there are no homosexuals in Iran, Its hard to believe anything from Muslims.

The problems are the vagueness and differing translations and interpretations of some of the sura, which some take to mean that Islam commands the killings of all non-believers (I don't agree with this interpretation), and then the interpretation by radical Muslims that any non-believers or citizens of what they declare an enemy nation are enemies and thus eligible to be killed. Add this to about 1300 years of conflict between two major religions, and you'll have a lot of people denouncing your religion without having the whole story.

It's probably because it's easy to get into the mindset that Muslim = terrorism, since various current events seem to suggest that. But those people just don't get that they don't represent true Islamic beliefs. I mean, Christians have killed lots and lots of people throughout history, but that doesn't mean that all Christians are killers.

It's just a stereotype that people accept instead of learning about the Islam religion and seeing that religion was just used as a ploy to get people to go along with the terrorist plots.

I don't think the world cares much about what other people believe or not believe. Do you care what the Japanese worship? Do you understand what the people of Tibet worship? All the rest of the world see is Muslims terrorist in India, Africa, England, America. If Muslims truly are what you say, why don't you condemn it and try to stop it rather than donating money at mosque which goes to the terrorists

Why..?
Well 9/11, thousands were killed by the actions of some muslims. This was watched over and over again by ppl all over the world on tv networks.
add to that the beheading of hostages by some @#$% in iraq.
Add to that the deathtoll as a result of the Sunni-Shia strife in iraq.(and both groups are muslim).

Add to that the Idiots in glasgow who were educated to be doctors (ppl who should be saving lives) trying to kill in the name of religion.

A religion does not stand alone on the basis of its tenets. Its the actions of the ppl who claim to be following it which results in public opinion.
Unfortunately at this point of time muslims are silently watching as their religion is hijacked by some ppl (muslims)who have their own political agenda.

Muslims have to be proactive. attend a party where alcohol is being served but refrain from drinking and you will be part of the social fabric and at the same time you will not be violating the tenets of islam. but most muslims tend to move around in the same circle creating their comfort zone. and yet complain that nobody understands us.Be part of the society , dont try to cling onto evrything which we brought along with us when we left our country.(im talking abt the prejudice of say aversion to ppl who consume alcohol)It is a slow process. Takes time.

Unfamiliarity breeds contempt. That my dear friend is the truth.

We're all associated with taint.

Whenever you join a group, any type of group even if its a business - if anything goes wrong in that group - you are held responsible to a certain degree.

Case in point: When Arthur Anderson went Belly-Up due to bad accounting practices, a lot of its employees were avoided like the plague for a very very long time. Mind you they had nothing to do with the corporate back room deals...but they were tainted by association.

Btw - i'm not necessarily saying this is right, rather its a phenomena that continually occurs in humanity, due to the fact that we're generally lazy about checking facts. ;-)

let me put it for you this way, you mean someone who kills the innocent civilians (here interprets the meaning of innocent civilians, in many people they have different points of view) are not meant to be a real Muslims. instead of saying islam forbids the killing BUT only some of them did actually kills people cruel in the spotlight.
any violence in any kind of circumstance is not right! what can makes world peace? only compassion, patience and considerations. not debating, criticizes to win this religions competition.

Mmm,loaded question but mainly its because the people who smashed two planes into the Word Trade Center were Muslim. Moreover, the Qur'an may suggest it forbids the killing of innocent people, but those who killed don't think we're innocent. We are an enemy and anyone who is on our side is an enemy. I understand the Qur'an says not to kill, but you must understand not all non-Muslims thinks it says you should kill. That is why we have labeled the killers "terrorist" or "extremist" or "radicals".
