my son was just pulling to stand on things and he fell doing so (right before bedtime) he screamed like crazy, I just assumed that he was startled more than hurt, it was his first 'big' fall... he was fine 10 minutes later and I put him to bed. The next morning he wouldnt crawl! I freaked and brought him in to the dr's, sure enough, he had a hairline fracture in his wrist! I felt so guilty for what turned out to be under-reacting! (and that was our third baby!!!) I cried so hard when he was getting his cast on the nurses and dr were laughing at me!

We have a lot of accidentally knocking them over, or bumping into them, etc. stories too. But that was the worst, by far!

I accidentally tripped my daugher in the kitchen and she fell face first onto the floor and her tooth dug into her lip.

When my son was a newborn, I wasn't used to taking care of a circumcision so when I opened his diaper at 2 days old, he peed and my natural reaction was to cover it with the baby wipe to keep the pee from getting all over. Well then I realized his penis was covered in pee so I took a clean baby wipe and wiped over it. His eyes rolled back in his head and he screamed his head off. I felt so bad I started crying. I then put the vaseline on it and a new diaper and hugged and cuddled with him the rest of the night. I have never felt like such a bad parent.

Well, my MIL dropped my husband flat on his back when he was 2 weeks old. Because he was so little and a broken neck is hard to detect, she couldn't move him until the paramedics arrived - she couldn't even pick him up to comfort him! Fortunately, he was OK, but she still feels bad about it 32 years later.
When my son was about 12 months old, I took him to his first visit to the zoo. We were in the parking lot, and I went to buckle him into his stroller. All of a sudden, he started screaming. I thought he was just thirsty, so I got his cup from the bottom compartment. I went to hand it to him, but he wouldn't lift his hand. That's when I noticed that his sleeve was covering where his little hand was pinched in the buckle! I felt SO terrible, gave him lots of hugs and kisses, and he was happy as a clam after I bought him an overpriced teddy bear from the zoo gift shop.

If you accidently hurt your child, I would not go out and buy them something. That gives them the thought that they should always receive something when they are hurt.
When my son is hurt, I take care of the boo boo 1st. And I give him a big hug and a kiss.
The only time he gets a special treat is when he gets his vaccination shots.

Well with 3 boys who are all now mobile...it's endless. Mostly it's accidentally knocking one down while trying to get to one of the others in a hurry or when they are standing behind you and you don't know it. I really can't think of anything else....I usually apologize like crazy and give lots of hugs and kisses.

Ha, when my daughter was about 5 weeks old. I was breastfeeding, I'd sit there on the couch and hold her...I got to watching t.v. next thing I knew my little one started flailing her little arms and kicking. I wasn't paying attention and was holding her too tightly and smothering her with my boob. I felt horrible at the time, its funny now because I'm much more aware...lol.

Usually if there is no blood we tell him to brush it off and that I am sorry. Most of the time he doesn't even bother to cry. If he does, we pick him up and give him a hug and a couple of pats on the back. Sounds like you are setting up a bad habit here. Good luck to you.
