I purchased and installed Norton Internet Security on my laptop. After installation I received error messages that some of my windows software had been changed and that my this could cause system errors. I contacted Norton and they did not know why this occured or how to fix, they said I needed to reinstall my Windows (XP). I have a Dell and did not find that I had ever received a start up disc from them that I could reload. I called Dell and told them what happened. They sent me a Windows XP disc. This is not a start up disc. I know that when you install start up disc that you received with a computer, that you will lose all your info, software, etc. that you have on your computer, because it puts the computer back to where it was when you received. However, if this is not a startup disc, will it do the same, or will all my files, software, etc. remain on the computer? I don't want to have to go thru saving all my files, etc. and reloading my software.

If u have an XP disc, you can reinstall WIndows without losing any files. You need to boot from that CD and go to 'install windows.' Not repair but install.
It will go thru the install process, as though you are starting from scratch and will reinstall XP but will still leave all your files there.

Get rid of norton and go download Avast and AVG anti spyware, they are both free. Norton isn't a good program at all, neither is Mcaffee stay away from those two.

instead of reinstalling all of windows, try the repair key with windows xp. press r on the main menu of it.
and most properly yes it will delete all your data, so i suggest if worse comes to the worse backup your data, burn it onto discs etc..
Typical norton for you, it does more harm then good for your pc.
