dog and they stopped at your yard and let him take a dump. Big dog too, not just a little mess, a big pile. Think about it...seriously. You know your character, who you are, what you are and AREN'T capable of doing. Now what would you do?

By the way, your answer doesn't have to be proper etiquette. I just didn't know where else to put this question.

Heres what I did do this actually happened , I ran outside and said "pick up that **** or I'll call the cops to give you a ticket and if you do it again I know where you live and I will bring the **** with an officer and a ticket." "Walk your dog in front of your own house that's disgusting," she never comes by again.

Very good question. I personally have two large dogs. We take walks and when they go in other peoples yards (only leash distance from the road) I clean it up with a bag and throw it in the trash. However, I do not pick it up in my own yard. I spray it with the garden hose and use it as free fertilizer. If it bothers me that someone is letting thier dog poop in my yard I would open the door and ask them to clean it up. If they give me a dirty look, I would start collecting the poop and save it up for about a month. Then I would put some gloves on and smear it all over the door of thier house. Thats not going overboard is it? Good luck.

Corona,
first - I would quickly find the "dog scoop" local code in my area, print it, read it, and keep it available. Then, the next time I saw this person near my house I would courteously tell them that I would appreciate them picking up the "doo" when their animal (aka responsibility) does their "business" in my yard. But I would say it in a way that is "firm" just no foul language - to where they get my point.

If this turns out to be "words of emotions" from the other side I would inform that person NOT to have their dog stop on my yard again. Personally, I am not scared of Attorneys or their power to protect my rights (though this may seem a little extreme here on this now) the point is you don't have to put up with this garbage on your property.

Best of Luck!

I would offer them a baggy to pick it up (or a couple). I would take the attitude that they must have run out, chuckle, chuckle, with such a big dog and all that.

If it were a continuing problem, I would consider a small sign. Dogs get in the habit of going in the same place. "This is my garden (or yard), please don't let your dog poop here!"

And, then, if that did not solve the problem, I would take their picture with my digital camera, and put it on the sign. Perhaps that would embarrass them.

If that did not work, since I had their picture, I would make a formal compaint. Most communities have rules about this.

It isn't nice is it.
But i am so so bad at being non-confrontational.
I have 3 dogs fenced of in the back and stray dogs run amock around here all the time, so if i saw someone letting their dog take a dump, i wouldn't say anything in all honesty.
I am not argumentative at all. Plus, we live on 3 acres, so we never walk the front only the back so i wouldn't worry about stepping it in or it smelling or anything kwim.
Yeah, i'm too soft and gullible!

If this was an ongoing problem, I would absolutely confront the individual about the situation. Right is right and wrong is wrong. If they are deliberately stopping in your yard, they need to be confronted and ask first to stop letting their dog do his personal business there. And I would say please. If it continued, I would then TELL, with no PLEASE, to STOP doing it. You are dealing with the individual, not the dog, obviously, so you cannot blame the dog. However, if the individual does not know that you are offended, he will not know to stop. Some people are just stupid. You can't fix stupid. Good Luck. Lori

If I saw it happen, I would definitely go out and say something like please pick up after your dog, this is a residential area. I have on occasion gone out or stuck my head out the door and said something when I see people mistreating animals. One time a guy who comes by here sometimes was dragging his dog on the end of the leash and hitting her when she didn't keep up. I shouted at him, and I haven't seen him do it since. I don't hesitate to say something, I'm one of THOSE people!

If the dump happens when you're not home, you have no choice but to pick it up yourself. Eew!

I would do the same thing I did before. I knew this fellow and knew where he lived. So went out and picked up the poo in a plastic bag and went to his house. I told him he "dropped" something in my yard and handed him the sack of dog poo. Everytime I have seen him since then, he has had a baggy with him to pick up his mess! I dont think he liked having a bag of poo handed to him! :)

This happened to me too. I went to the pile, picked it up, put it in a bag, and took it to that neighbors door. When they opened the door, I very politely gave them the bag and said " your dog left this at my house, I know they want it back"
It didn't happen again.
