No. Isa. 2:4 says: "And they will have to beat their swords into plowshares and their spears into pruning shears. Nation will not lift up sword against nation, neither will they learn war anymore."
At Matt. 5:43, 44, Jesus said: "You heard that it was said, ‘You must love your neighbor and hate your enemy.’ However, I say to you: Continue to love your enemies and to pray for those persecuting you."
TRUE Christians do not participate in wars for ANY reason.

Here is a question. What would happen if NO Christians joined? We would create and enormous section of the population the rarely, if ever comes into contact with Christians. It is very nearly like that now. If one is convicted to be a Pacifist, then by no means should one sign up for service; but there were many great Heroes in the Bible who served.
Devoting my life to God does not excuse me from the responsibility to be a great wife, mother, worker, or patriot. As a Christian, wherever I am called I must be a beacon for the love of Christ. I have known many servicemembers who embodied just that.

well, in the OT times everybody seems to be in the military. they fought wars all their lives.
Jesus himself never taught against being a soldier, and all..
Soldiers were saved during His times. Therefore, yes, I believe Christians may join the military service, or the Police if they want to. God can use them there.

The commandment says, "Do not murder."
There are many instances in the Bible where killing was necessary. Killing someone else in the process of defending your country isn't "murder."
Another way of looking at it: if a Christian got us into this mess (say, President Bush), then Christians should be fighting the war of their brethren.

It is protecting thier beliefs and thier familes. They are protecting the weak, the helpless and the strong.
Why shouldn't they fight? It's thier country too.
