Bear in mind, 250 have already returned home so deduct that number from 1000....

Also bear in mind, pre-planned troop rotation... and count the days until you see/hear GB standing up and saying "we're sending more troops to AFGHANISTAN (the REAL SOURCE of this recent terror conflict).. and the 'praise' being heaped on him....

Play on words?... OR... Gordon Brown playing the usual political game with our lives on the line...?

of course I believe in what Gordon Brown says.... after all hes an upstanding member, the leader of the Labour Party and the Prime Minister

He like his predecessor make a huge play for honesty, integrity and the moral high ground.

After all its not as if he's lied before whilst in office, is it.
Its not as if he's double (or even) triple counted something (NHS spending is a prime example).
its not as if he has ever played fast and loose with someone elses lives.
its not as if he's been blatently dishonest before, calling his management of the economy 'prudent' whilst embarking on the highest increase in state expenditure on the never never, claiming that the economy can afford it but saddling the country with vast amounts of debt as he has pished money away on numerous projects without caring about getting value for money, or even ANY return in that excpenditure

ooops!

That is a tricky one. Think of it this way, Mr Brown was the Blaire swag man for a decade. So the funding for any armed conflict had to get the green light from the exchequer, which means that Gordon has as much blood on his hands as the former P.M. Something that has gone largely un questioned since G.B. moved in to number 10. Also, clarification is needed to (and I am not being Flippant about peoples lives here!) establish how many of the 1000 he expects to be alive upon their return

If they are back it will be for a Christmas break before they get sent away again. I think Gordon brown doesn't want to fall out with anyone and probably doesn't know what to do about our troops. Indeed he is doing what they all do! Expect our troops to do everything that suits the government.

And on this chapter ... One of my friends is very ill with gulf war syndrome. According to this government, there is no such thing as gulf war syndrome. Yet of all! Same government has now advised those who became ill that a university in Edinburgh is prepared to do tests and do what is best for them (No cure) if!!! They still won't admit that the fact that gulf war syndrome is a reality. 1 in 3 will not make it past the age of 50.

Doesn't that make you sick!

Actually the figure that had already been agreed for withdrawal was 500, so Brown is only increasing that by another 500. That he has fudged the numbers is to be expected from a man who once was chancellor; surely no one seriously thought the spin would stop when Blair left.
The real question should be: does anyone believe Brown when he says that the withdrawal from Basra is actually a victory!! Give me a break!!!

Oh expensive, the pre-election political agendas are all popping out are not they? First, study what he easily pronounced: "What we propose to do over those following few months is to flow from a difficulty the place we've a wrestle place to an overwatch place." "this might contain the present British stress of 5,500 being decrease to 4,500 - freeing up the troops for different responsibilities" fantastically sparkling to anybody different than a Tory: 5,500 - a million,000 = 4,500. for sure, for the social gathering that gave us the financial mess of Black Wednesday, the math will possibly no longer be that evident!

Brown is like any other politician, spins news so that it appears to be good news benefiting his party. We all know that politicians talk with forked tongues..
