As a victim of seasonal allergies, I've been there, done that.
Try gargling with warm salt water, use sore throat lozenges or spray, and/or drink your favorite hot tea, sweetened with honey. Drink plenty of fluids so that your throat stays moistened. Keep talking to a minimal, so that your vocal chords don't aggravate your sore throat even more. I'd also stay away from high acidic foods or drinks, such as lemonade or orange juice. It might aggravate your sore throat as well.
If your sore throat doesn't get better, or you start to feel worse, run a fever or your ears start hurting, you might have some sinus drainage caused by a sinus infection or an ear infections, and I'd suggest going to the dr for some antibiotics. I hope that this helps and that you get better soon.

Go to the health food store. Ask for candied Ginger. Eat a piece 2 to 3 times a day. Also if you do not have a problem with high blood pressure. Use warm salt water to gargle with a few times a day.
Some viruses start out with a sore throat but these suggestions will help the sore throat as soon as anything.
Good luck.

Find some echinacea tea, and start drinking that 2x a day. I use the Celestial Seasonings brand - the one with the koala on it. That will help your body fight whatever virus you are probably getting. You'll still get it, but it won't be as bad, or last as long, and you'll have less severe symptoms.
For soothing the throat itself, you can try a recipe for hot ginger lemonade which will include lemon juice, fresh ginger root, and honey dissolved in hot water. If you are feeling brave you can add a little cayenne pepper and fresh garlic, too. It tastes a bit like lemon theraflu without the tang of drugs in it.
For lunch, chicken soup. Make it fresh yourself, if you can: saute' bits of chicken and vegetables and then add chicken broth and serve over noodles or rice.
Stay away from alcohol, take it easy and rest when you can, and drink plenty of fluids. Put yourself in total healing mode - do only what is necessary, and everything else should be devoted to taking care of yourself.

Go to a big drugstore that might stock it, and buy a product called Aspergum. It is hard to find, but it is excellent for a sore throat. I have used it for years when I absolutely HAD to be at work and could barely swallow. It is chewing gum with aspirin embedded in it. Get the cherry flavor; it tastes better. Another quick fix is Chloroseptic Spray. Nasty tasting but effective.

Ibuprofen is very good for a sore throat. It will lessen the swelling. Someone mentioned Advil, but I think Ibuprofen works better.Drink some hot lemonade or lemon juice with local honey. Drink lots of fluids and soups. I know you're in college but try those lollipops with zinc (in the cough drop etc. section) for kids. They always make me feel better.

Try gargling with a salt water solution: a teaspoon to a glass of warm water.. There are commercial throat sprays that will dull the pain temporarily.

Here an old home remedy that my gramma used and did for me several times. Even worked for strep. She would dip a q-tip in methiolate (found at drug store), and swab (paint) all the areas that hurt. Within a few hours felt better.
Also, warm salt water gargles work okay, just not as fast.

There's always the classic, Gargle with Warm Salt Water.
Yes it's nasty, but it works..that's why you've heard it all your life.
Alternatively you can gargle with a mixture of one part hydrogen peroxide to one part water. That's best for infections, though. If your throat is sore just due to weather changes, that might not help a whole lot.

Hey M,
Try Ginger Tea for natural relief. Take it at an intervals of 1-2 hours, and you will see the difference same day.
Get well soon...
Cheers,
Gary
