It bothers the neighbors, and wakes almost everyone up. We personally don't mind, but we've been getting a lot of complaints. Would anyone know why he does this or how we can stop him?

Sme dogs are just hard-wired to get up before sunrise. Since the Siberian Husky was originally bred as a sled-dog in Siberia, which is a place very near the Arctic Circle, I would assume that his forefathers spent much of their lives in almost complete darkness, so he doesn't maybe need the sun as an alarm clock, as other breeds might. If he's bothering the neighbors, though, try to see if feeding him right away and taking him for his walk or setting him outside to do his business might stop his barking. Also, I know that my dog (who is not a natural-born early riser by ANY means!) tends to wake up really early and bug me if he is hungry, so I always give him a bedtime snack right before we go to bed, just so he isn't starving at 5 AM. That really seems to help. I have the opposite problem, though- most days I can't get him out of bed to walk him before work!!

Speaking from experience most huskies are not barking just to bark. If its at the same time everyday, he probably hears something outside be it a car alarm (someone getting in there car) the newspaper people, etc. Huskies are not watchdogs but they do let you know when someone or something is around that shouldnt be there.

If he does bark everyday at 5 on the dot you should set your clock for 4;45 and take him out before he gets a chance to bark at 5. see if that works, Otherwise maybe he hears a neighbor leaving or another persons alarm clock going off at that time.It might be the same neighbor"s that he hears that are complaining!!!!

It depends on where he came from and patterns or habits he had. It could be lots of things. He may want to be walked or need to go to the bathroom. If he had former owners they may have got up at that time. It could be another noise setting the dog off. Until you why the dogs barking there really isn't a way to stop it.

Does he have to go out? My husky gets very mouthy if he had to use the bathroom early, or if hes sick. Have him looked at to make sure he's not in pain. Or try teaching a quiet command. I did this to stop my husky from excessive "roooing" that they tend to do when they are excited. Usually they only 'bark' when they are really agitated, so consider whats bothering him.

We've had Huskies for 20 years, and have never had one bark unless it's very agitated. Otherwise, they make a soft woo wooing type howl. I would guess he either needs to go potty very badly, or there is something else that is agitating him enough to make him bark. Some wierd neighborhood noise perhaps?

Find out what is waking him up and then deal with it.

Is it someone leaving for work in the house across the street? A newspaper being delivered? Someone jogging past the house?

Try waking up before 5 and finding out what it is---then start rewarding him for being quiet when he hears the sound.Soon he'll learn to ignore it.

BTW He's in the house, right? Does he sleep in your room? That will make it much easier.

I know it may be a bother but try walking him at this time. This may be a sign that he needs additional potty time. My dog alerted me the same way and that when i knew. She now goes 7am, 12noon, 4pm, and 10pm she used to go only 3 times now shes at 4.
