I retired a few years ago after 28 years. It is not a job for the faint of heart, or those only looking for benefits. You have to believe in what you are doing. Military life is demanding, sometimes boring as hell, and often the logic of a situation is not readily evident. And it can be indescribably dangerous.
But it is an incredibly rewarding life -- the bonds you make with your military friends are stronger than any you'll make in any other situation short of monogamous heterosexual marriage, and in some cases even stronger. The life of a Soldier may not be for everyone, but it is an experience that cannot be duplicated in any other career path.

If you really want to do it, then do it, Both my husband and son are in the Army. You join the military to defend your constitution, it should not matter if there is a war going on or not. Both my husband and son joined recently knowing thier was a war going on, but they still went on and did it. I am very proud of both of them.

Go for it, but remember this: it's not a job, it's a lifestyle and you have to be dedicated to the cause. Sure the benefits are nice, but remember there is a chance that you will end up in Iraq or Afghanistan. The choice is yours. I did it and do not regret it at all. Hooah and good luck!
